What's the silliest workout you have done and now laugh at the "logic" of it?
Okay, so I was writing to a new poster, and I began remembering all of the things I used to do to "tone up". SMH already...
I used to do 4 sets of 25 curls with 5-8lb dumbbells,
I'd literally do walking lunges with 20lb dumbbells 180 times (90 each leg)
I would run 6 miles 3x a week and lift heavy--thinking that large pizza I ate the night before wouldn't matter
I would literally do over 100 repetitions of an isolated exercise with lighter weight because I was convinced that it would kick me into "fat burning" and I'd get stronger too.
lolol. I'd love to hear especially from the experienced lifters--just to see where we have all begun.
*"Obession is just a word the lazy try to call the dedicated"*--not mine, but a great quote!

I remember browsing one of my old workout logs and I was doing 2x8 deadlifts with two 15lb dumbbells (right now I would do that at minimum 160lbs), or doing 8lb tricep kickbacks holding onto a dang exercise ball.. yeesh. Worst part was that the program was designed for me by my job's fitness trainer, apparently that was going to help me get a better time on a police fitness exam. Erm yeah ok.
See, that's what I was hoping to see--we were ALL brainwashed to think we should lift "light weights" at one time ...
It was awful! And truth is that I told her specifically that I needed to push and pull 80lbs plus drag a 180lb dummy! And she had me doing tricep kickbacks! Unfortunately I didn't know any better at the time...!
Bought some 5 and 10lb dbs like 3 yrs ago and did bicep curls and tricep kickbacks all day, lol. Wanted to get jacked gunz. Then I got an oly bb set to play around with at home and joined a gym. DL, bench, squat, OHP, rows, never looked back. Built some muscles much faster this way.
Current PRs:
Bench Press: 185x1
OHP: 100x4
Deads: 300x1
Back Squats: 220x1

oh dear where do i begin?
age 10- was obsessed with britney spears. heard she did 500-1000 situps/crunches a day. so did i.
age 14-workouts from seventeen magazine and cosmo girl
age 16-bought weight lifting for dummies. all i had was 5 lb dumbbells. did every exercise in the book every day with 5 lbs.
age 17-still no access to weights. all i had was pull up bar. all i did was push ups and pull ups non stop for an ungodly amount of time every single day. no legs.
age 18-hired personal trainer. typical leg day? 4x12 leg press, leg extension, leg curl, abductor, adductor, see a trend??
Up until last fall, I only had 8lb neoprene dbs & did 4 sets of 25 reps at set times throughout the day of curl variations. I also did 4 sets of 25 leg lifts, crunches, & pushups.
I'd do these for a few months then get board & stop for a while. Then start up again. I've done that "program" for more years than I care to count(okay, it was 8!)
Too cheap & dumb to buy equipment or look into programs.
"That's what I want. Period. I want to look like I lift even when I don't flex. I want little girls to be afraid of my abs. I want other women to talk bad about me out of jealousy. I want men to worry I could snap them in half with my legs(yet be oddly turned on by the thought at the same time)." ~me2011

Okay well this sounds like me until very, very recently (except I couldn't even do pushups haha). I was a master as doing 100s of body weight squats and crunches, for at least a couple of weeks at a time, too.

freakin thigh master! And that damn adductor machine!!
When I worked at the globo gym, I'd have female clients who had trouble squatting because they had very short, overactive adductors which made their knees cave in during squats.
So we'd spend a lot of time doing soft tissue release and mobility drills to fix it and then on their non-session days I'd see them on that damn adductor machine basically negating everything we'd been working on..
I do snatch pulls in the gym so I can do snatch pulls in the bars. And I ALWAYS use a hook grip.

When I was 7 or 8, I did the Get in Shape Girl stuff. I had the ribbon. I still remember the song from the commercial. And sure enough - it is on Youtube.
Girls always talk to me about trying to tone and doing all these stupid exercises where they do like 30 reps. I try to explain to them that there is no such thing as "toning", what they're really referring to is just building muscle and losing fat, thus your muscles are more visible. Every chick I talk to says "Well, my personal trainer says that's wrong, and I can't do more weights and less reps because I don't want to get bulky". Some chick even showed me an exercise she was doing and said "These are triceps extensions, that's what my personal trainer says and he's right, so who are you to say anything?", and I'm like "No. These are tricep extensions, I'm not even sure what it is you're doing" and I had to google image the exercise for her. Girls are brainwashed, I tell ya.

leotards....what? you don't miss those?? I think mine was aqua blue with fuscia tights and a sweatshirt that went with them as a cover-up purposely made to fall off one shoulder. yep, flashdance style!

Ahem. JAZZ HANDS!! I had one of those suspender-type leotards that I wore a half-tank top with. I was motherfudging FABULOUS.

LOL - oh yeah! A boat cut top with the cutesy bra straps showing, belt, stirrup pants with keds and a pair of leg warmers all scrunched up . . . I'm glad I missed the 80's workout train a little - but my sisters were right in the middle of it.
love the jazz hands picture. Is that really you? oh I forgot about LEGWARMERS...ooh I had at least three pairs of those things too!
Nah, I wasn't nearly that cool in Junior High. It's from Awkward Family Photos. Which is a treasure trove for those of us whose mothers took us to Sears every six months for a new family portrait session. We had ALL the fake backgrounds. Why on earth anyone ever thought the library background was cool is beyond me.
