    Genetics?

Some say that genetics are only a small factor in regards to lifting potential, others say it is make or break. From what I've seen genetics play a pretty large role in potential to be big and strong. For example, in my year at school, we have 200 lbs guys benching 225 for reps, meanwhile we have ectos at 120 lbs who might never bench 225 even when fully grown. Opinions?

Genetics play a big role in any sport. However, a popular quote is "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". That 120lb guy could bulk to 180lb over the years and bench 315lb in theory. Meanwhile the 200lb guy might be peaking with his 225lb bench if he doesn't put the work in.

There's a really good serious on you tube by VitruvianPhysique regarding genetic potentials and their role in bodybuilding. I highly recommend it!

Everyone can look good, everyone can be strong.

Genetics will play a big role in how good you can be at max, or how you progress. As well as where you start.

This is dumb. I started lifting while weighing 90 lbs. I was benching little to nothing on the bar. I'm now around 121, I hardly lift, and I max out at about 185 on bench. I'd day for most people, 285-315 seems to be the range for most people at max for natural lifters.
