Can someone explain to me the importance of SS? Not that I'm saying it's bad but I'm just curious on why people suggest it for beginners.
I've never use SS before. I make my own routine (which does work well for me, some parts though).
Sure it focuses on compound lifts, but it's not like you can't fit the compound lifts on your own routine, and your routine could probably be even better with addition of more exercises.

As a beginner lifter you don't know enough about the affects more exercises will have on your recovery and gains . Chances are you'll make the routine worse. More isn't better. It's not the best routine ever by any means , there is no such thing . BUT what it does is teach you . You'll understand when you get older and as you lift more. For now just trust us on this one. And 5 day splits are a$$ unless they have high frequency which most don't

You don't have to do anything. You don't even have to lift.
Whatever program you do, if you lift and eat and stay consistent you will find some form of success. Some people like taking the longer/winding/traffic-ridden road versus the straight route.
I don't understand why you wouldn't want to do SS though. It's fun

Looking at your log, your self-designed workouts have a lot less volume than the SS program...
Squat:
135x2
225x1
275x1
315x1
355x1
315x5 (rep PR)
95x3
115x2
135x1
155x1
180x1 (PR)
165x2 (tired)
Your last deadlift session:
Deadlift:
135x2
225x1
315x1
405x1
440x1
455x2x1 (PR)
2565lbs moved. Compare to 315x5, 365x5 - 3400lbs moved.
It seems like you are the one skimping on volume...

i never did ss and i look great and am strong off a 4-5 day split. always focused on my big lifts and then did more of hypertrophy with all other exercises. maybe id be stronger if i did ss or maybe not but the results from my split are great with good nutrition.

Lately I have been keeping the volume low as about 1.5 months ago I managed to **** my back up somehow and put myself out of the gym for 3 weeks straight with muscle relaxants just so I could breathe properly.
My deadlift volume has always been low, though, as I find I increase in poundage faster that way.
I am, however, doing 275 for 15 singles on front squats tomorrow; which is 20lbs off my max of 295. That's something Rippetoe would probably shudder at...
