    Pelvic Misalignment / Twisted Pelvis

Does anyone have any experience with this diagnosis?

Long story short, I started having low back pain and occasional sciatica. This started in February, and has gradually gotten worse. Lower body workouts are now pretty much stuck at lunges as squats/presses really ignite the pain.

Saw a chiropractor last week and after xrays, he gave me this dx. I actually saw the xrays and it is very obvious that one hip is about 3 cm higher than the other and the pelvic bone is tilted forward. He says the lbp and hip measurement difference is caused by twisting of the pelvis and that treatment 3 x's wkly for 6 wks will fix it. My insurance does not pay for this (or pt for that matter) and even at the discounted rate of $30 a visit, it's alot of money for a full time student on a students salary ($0).

Soooo, is it worth it? Has anyone ever had this and does the chiro really fix it? If he does fix it, will it come back? ANY advice is so much appreciated!!!

Might be a silly question, but have you tried wearing a lift in one of your shoes? One side of my hips sits about an inch higher than the other because one of my legs is longer than the other (so when I get x-rays my lower spine is curved) and my doctor basically "fixed" it by having me purchase shoes I could put a lift in one side of. I don't actually wear them all the time because I don't have much back pain, but when they wanted to see my spine for another x-ray I wore them and the lower portion was perfectly straight. I assume they've measured each leg from hip to ankle? If one is 3cm longer, no spine/hip alignment will fix the difference (but some silly shoes will).

I think I have same problem. I've had chiro care for all of my adult life though and it hasn't changed my height difference in legs or helped the scoliosis. I've had some chiros and doctors though that will say I DON'T have a leg length difference though. I wore the shoe inserts with a lift for years and it didn't help in fact it made my back pain worse and the inserts were so hard they made my feet hurt too.

Looking at myself in the full length gym mirror standing up straight I notice my right leg seems to be crooked. Standing straight ahead the front of thighs should be visible in mirror, but I notice my right inner thigh is visible when I am trying to stand straight ahead. A physical therapist did once tell me I had something wrong with my hip and that the muscle was too tight and pulling things the wrong way. She asked if I had had an injury and I did have a seatbelt injury many years ago that twisted my hip out of alignment which I saw a chiro for at the time. So now I do think maybe my leg or pelvis is twisted or else was deformed since birth as I've seen some full length pictures of myself as a toddler where my legs looked all weird. I don't know what to do about it.

I have not although I have heard pros and cons to to wearing one. The funny thing is that I walk just fine. No limp unless my back is really hurting. The measurements when laying down are even. It was thru the xray that we saw the 3cm difference in hip bone to hip bone (not hip to ankle).

I worked with a chiropractor for about the same length of time that yours has recommended, and while it DID help, it certainly wasn't fixed. The only thing that has been more of a permanent "fix" for me is doing classical mat Pilates about once a week. It's never gone away completely, but I can definitely tell a difference when I have gone to a class vs. when I skipped out. Good luck!
This is what my dad wants me to try first. He is very anti-chiro and thinks they are milking for the money. The fact that it did not permanently fix you helps me lean more toward the pilates as well. Did this cause you sciatic pain also? And, do you now lift regularly? I only started lifting weights in March but I love what it is doing to my body, and now that I can only do upper body w/o pain is killing me.

Thats me too, and why I went to the chiro last week. I am tired of hurting! I read alot of info on the web this morning and over and over I am seeing muscles being the cause more so than a bone reason. I think I might try the pilates and stretching for a few weeks and see what happens.

Maybe this is something you could try? Again, good luck. Keep us updated.
I will try cycling and I am looking for a pilates class right now! Thank you!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't sciatic pain caused by a pinched nerve in the low back? Not leg length differences. I've had sciatica a few times in past after a car accident and chiro was only thing that helped.

That said yes chiros can milk you if you aren't careful. My experience is some try to make you visit 2-3 times a week for rest of life so they have a steady income. When that is the case I notice those kind of chiros tend to not quite do the adjustment right...like they don't pop you quite back into place because they want you to hurt a little constantly so that you will think you need to go back weekly. I feel very angry towards about 3 chiros I went to that kept me going constantly for this pain in my mid back that they always said was a popped rib. Well after I moved I had a new chiro, sort of like an old country doctor type person, he told me oh that's not a popped rib...you just have a really tense trapeze muscle that is all in knots. Then he showed me a simple stretch to do to make the knot go away. Now I do this stretch daily and always before I lift weights and no longer have that weird pain in back. But I feel like I was totally "taken" by the many chiros that charged me thousand$ over the years telling me I had a popped out rib because of scoliosis.

I would definitely see a chiro for this, something like this if not treated can snowball and cause various problems down the road. Yes, there are chiro's who are not the best and will milk you but this is worth doing some research and finding one that you trust and getting treated.

I used to work for one whom I respected a great deal, something like this would call for daily adjustments or stretching of some sort by the chiropractor as well as treatment by a PT. I'm not sure if there is a complete fix for this, depends on if it's skeletal or muscular, you can manage it and prevent other issues from occurring. I would ask the chiropractor specific questions:
    1) would he be working on you along with PT sessions? if so, what would he do?
2)what led to this? sometimes it can be extreme tightening of certain musculature which leads to mis alignment (best case scenario) important to know because if that's the case it's just a matter of him stretching you and working on stabilizing the muscles.
    3) tell him you can't afford sessions and if there's something you can do at home. If he knows what he's talking about he should be able to answer these, if not get a second opinion.
Being a real lifter is not about a number, or a medal, or somebody else telling you that you are a real lifter. It is about commitment to the iron and strength of purpose.

You need trigger point therapy. You have an inflate/outflare condition it sounds like. I have one leg 1.5cm longer, and one side of my pelvis is actually bigger. But today i found relief for the first time in years.. saw an integrative neuro****tic therapist (http://www.neuro****ticeducators.com/) . Got 2 more sessions, flew to florida for this. I normally had to sit on an 17mm pad on my left side to level the pelvis; now its down to 12mm and the pain is gone..

I have been in agony for 15 years since a serious accident splintered my heel bone, ( chiros, ostepaths, specialist physio, masseures) nothing worked for me, until i came across a book lont to me by my sister in law, I had just been to the Chiropractor every day for a week and gone to a number of massage thereapist, for very little improvmement.. I was on my way to a meditation retreat and the book qwas called pain free by Peter Egoscue. I had noted the leg difference by putting my ankles together and one ankle bone was above the other. While on the retreat doing the exercises to correct this anomalie, my ankle bones came back to event.

I am studying this now and have been practicing for 6 months for great improvments, I also suffer from mild scoliosis...this is also starting to improve, and I can only encourage you to get the book and commit to a program...all my progress has been with only one visit to a specialist egoscue person and the infomration I am learning from becoming a student, however most of what I ahve learnt so far is in the books. the first 2 go hand in hand...cost you 30 or 40 for both of them...

    Good luck

I have the twisted hip bones, it took years to finally get it straightened out. I have a narrowing of the foramen (holes in the sacroilliac joint where the nerves comes out) which can cause some serious pain when they are swollen. I would see a musculo-skeletal specialist, your insurance should cover that or a physiatrist (same type specialty) Look in your local orthopedic specialty hospital. Mine literally would yank my leg and taught my husband and oldest how to do it. In fact the quarter in heel lift I HAD, I can't stand to wear even now it is tweaked out again. In simple terms it is keeping the 'tight or overactive ' muscles relaxed and the 'loose or underactive' muscles strengthened. Training your muscles to keep your hips bones in the proper place for you.
    Good luck.

I've had a similar issue. Really sharp pain in the right glute while walking or even just moving. The pain is generally isolated in one point and does not move down my leg. I've had this on and off for over 6 years! Sometimes it gets really bad, other times I'm pain free for months.

I've tried Physio. I've tried building up core strength. I've tried Yoga. I've tried massage and acupuncture. All these made it worse. Massage certainly didn't help when the pain was bad.

I have been seeing a Chiro recently who diagnosed me with really bad hip alignment (right side lower than left). Could see it on the x-ray. He puts me on this machine which stretches out / loosens up the lower back. Puts a block under my right hip while on this machine (I assume to push it into line). Then he does a few other small manipulations / cracking. He also recommended Orthotics, which cost around 400 bucks. I've recently tried these out and am getting pain in the initial stages, but can feel they are making me utilise the different muscles in my leg now when I walk. I notice my right leg is significantly weaker than my left. I can't even do a 1 legged squat properly on my right leg. Maybe the Orthotics will help fix this up a bit.

I'll see how this treatment goes for the next few weeks and let you guys know if it works. It's costing me a fortune so I hope it helps.
