Dropped phone in puddle, put it in water & rice for 48 hours, still doesn't work

So I dropped my blackberry in a puddle last night walking back from the bars and I don't have insurance. I've heard of people putting their phone in rice & water to get rid of the water damage. Anyone have anymore tips??

as long as it's not turned on, it's still good, the only way it can break is if the water short circuits it, at that can only happen if it's turned on, when its turned off it's just a bunch of plastic and metal. this is why switching it off fast before the water penetrates the casing is important.

on my mates birthday, he dropped his iphone in a barrel of water (which was ice before hand to cool the drinks)...

he sat it next to the portable heater we had outside for a bit, did not turn it on for 24 hours.... it is now 8 months later and the phone still works.
