    Physically, it's easier to attain a 4 plate squat than bench. However, there are more bencher than squatters so I can see how people can be more impressed by the squat.

    For a serious lifter, 3 plate bench is more impressive. For the average gym goer, 4 plate squat to legit depth (ATG is a nonsense phrase that pisses me off) is more impressive.

    I find the 3 plate bench more impressive because I'm a lot closer to being able to do a 4-plate atg squat than I am to a 3-plate bench. That's just me though. I do realize that more people can do the 3-plate bench than can move 4 plates atg.

    you warm up with 315? Which means you can obviously push out at least 20 reps.... in for vid of adlerian repping 315 on flat bench for 20. Doing a set of 8-12 does not constitute a warm up weight.

    for me the squat....once most people get over 2 plates ATG goes out the window.


    however bitches like the bench, as well as most people.

    No one ever asks what you squat when they first find out you lift it's always what you bench.


    In conclusion most people are impressed with a heavy bench.

    If you can squat 4 plates I would hope you could bench 3.....

    To me the squat is more impressive though. See a 3 plate bench at my gym weekly, but i've never seen a 315 squat at my gym, let alone 405.

    at my gym most people quarter squat like 155. i dont get it, are these people serious about life? i think a handful of guys in my gym can 1rep bench 315.

    I cannot physically go ATG with any weight squat, I just can't. My legs simply won't allow it or something.

    IMO a 315 bench is harder to achieve than a 405 atg squat but I would still consider the squat more impressive based on how rare it is to see someone squat heavy at a commercial gym.

    Have seen about 5 people legit bench 3 plates, Iv been fairly impressed. Never seen anyone squat 4 plates atg, it wouldnt blow me away but I would be MUCH more impressed by a 4 plate ATG squat.

    To that guy who said ATG is a stupid term I sort of agree as it is overused by ****tards who have no clue. Although I do think it has its place to distinguish between legit squat and 'ass 2 inches from floor' squat.

    Obviously more people bench 315 than squat 405

    But the truth is it takes a lot more work to get to a 315 bench

    With SS and Madcows you can get a 405 squat in a year

    Meaning just by squatting a few times a week you can get there quick

    That's not gonna happen with bench
