    Chicken vs turkey

I've noticed that in so many bodybuilding nutrition articles/plans that chicken seems to be the top pick. Just curious, but what about turkey? Is it as advantageous? Any reasons why it's not more popular in bodybuilding? Thanks!

    I don't know.

Is any specific food advantageous? Or is it the macronutrient make-up of said food that matters in regards to body composition?

You've been here awhile haven't you?

There's a huge advantage to eating turkey if you have a huge preference for turkey over chicken. That said, there's a huge advantage to eating chicken if you have a huge preference for chicken over turkey.

Quoting from hubpages (bored at work).....

When talking about breast meat that is fried or boiled, turkey has almost half the calories of chicken. Additionally, it has about a ninth of the fat calories. Therefore, if you're a person who really can't give up the fried foods, you're going to want to head for the turkey instead of the chicken to save what you can on the calories and fat.
Despite this, you'll also be losing out on the protein. If what you're seeking is a high protein diet, you should go with the chicken. As prepared discussed on the above point, you'll get almost twice as much protein with the chicken than with the turkey. (See NutritionData for more comparisons like these.)
If you're a liver eater, you might want to know that chicken liver also has half the calories of turkey liver. It's also got less than a third of the fat.
According to one study there is more fat in the neck of a chicken than in the neck of a turkey

In summary, chicken tends to be higher in fat and calories but is also higher in protein as long as what you're eating is the meat and not the organs or the neck. But of course it depends on how you prepare your food (if you like fried chicken and grilled turkey, then the numbers are going to differ greatly). The differences between the two are not significant enough to make a major impact upon your diet if white meat is only a small part of your overall caloric intake.

Here's your answer. Chicken is "better" because it'll help you increase your dietary fat intake

^^ Careful because if you don't have a keen eye, you may end up with a MUCH higher fat content than regular ground beef. Unless the ground turkey us just white/breast meat, you can expect for a bunch of skin to be ground in, which jacks up the fat content.

I'm not sure, but there's nothing like the smell of turkey breast in the oven. I don't know of any disadvantages of turkey breast compared to chicken breast. The cooking technique seems more important. When you find them at a good price, load up!

Once in awhile turkey breast goes on sale dirt cheap.

So, when that happens, you're all cutting up turkey into pieces. Then you're all, "I think I'll wrap a shiitload of these pieces in bacon."

Then you're like "Well, hell... might as well marinate these overnight in a bag of balsamic vinegar, olive oil, fresh minced garlic and italian seasoning."

Then you all... like, grill the fawk out of them for a bit.

    So good.

Uhhhh I open my eyes and read the package to assess the fat content. Being that I compete and count macros, kind of have to do this.

    Turkey

I prefer Turkey, it's mostly personal preference, they are both better than red meat. Although from the research I have done turkey has more sodium. Chicken is more available, and people tend to go with what's more popular for no apparent reason.

    Personally, I prefer bacon.
doesnt the trans fat in bacon raise LDL (bad cholesterol) if you eat it every day?

Also, I prefer turkey if its cold and on a sandwich with god bread.
