Thinking of getting one....I currently have a Gateway mini laptop that runs extremely slow and I continously want to slam it on the ground.
Thing is, I dont really use the computer for too much other than web surfing...
What are some good qualities to the Mac?
Like I foundout you even have to buy the program Microsoft Word...I thought stuff like that came with the computer...

If you want a laptop solely for surfing the net, do not waste your money on a mac. They're extremely overpriced for what you wish to do with them. What are the specs on your laptop?
edit: and Word doesn't even come with PC's, so that will cost you extra no matter what you buy.*19ft master race crew*

I have a Dell XPS but my gf has a Mac. I really like it and use it more than my computer. My battery is shot on mine and I have to keep it plugged up at all times. Her Mac battery life is insane, lasts a really long time. I use both computers for mainly surfing the web, but I do like hers more. I've also typed papers on hers as well, but beyond that, idk which would be better in comparison.

PC's come with a really ****ty word processor, so do Mac's. I mean it will get the job done for sure either way. But in all honesty I'd only buy a mac if you want to mess around with art/music type stuff. Not to mention if you're used to PC and have never used a mac it will take a while to get used to. For basic use, it's a PC no brainer.

PC's are equally reliable as long as you don't get viruses from downloading too much porn....Just because a Mac is less susceptible to a virus doesn't mean it's more reliable. It's 100% about the user. And like someone else said, you can get what you're looking for, for about 250-350 dollars. You're gonna spend at least 800 on a mac....is that worth a free ipod touch and a ****ty printer lol?

I have owned 2 macbooks, I'm currently using one of them now...Cliff = Awesome.
My porn cruisers. Any site, anytime, anywhere. Not a single f*ck has been given. Not a single bluescreen, random restart, F*cking hourglass bullsh*t, update you antivirus sh*t, f*cking update screens, pop ups...all that BS, no hardware failures either
First one was a base model macbook(2ghz dual core) bought at then end of '07 I paid $997 w/ student discount(100 bucks off)... I turned it on out of the box and it ran with no problems much less a hickup until March of this year because i dropped it a total of 9 feet from the top of a locker to a concrete floor(feelsbad) but it had a good run. I presume it would have lasted another 3.5 years no problem had I not dropped it. Now I was careful and mindful of what the f*ck I was doing w/ my 1 grand laptop so, if your not careful you might break it alot easier...This went to afghanistan and back with me with no problems. All I did to it was upgrade the ram from 2 to 4 gigs...so ~1200 days of operating with not a single issue...I was sold
I currently have a latest gen. 15" Macbook pro(i7 2ghz quad core) that was about $1800 w/ discount. This one has an aluminum body as well so i think its going to end up being a little more durable. I upgraded the ram from 4 to 8 gigs. No problems at all
And I was a PC fanboy all thru high school and some college until I took a web design course and it was taught on macs. I personally enjoy Mac OS...the sh*t just works
So my point OP. If you want a computer that works from the moment you pull it out of the box. It doesn't f*cking complain to you all the time. Get a MacUSMC Combat Vet

I'd also like to mention that I've had an HP G60 for over three years with no problems. My girlfriend had the white mac...I guess it's the basic one...and the hard drive failed TWICE. Lost all data/music/files/etc. However, my old Dell **** out after about a year and a half. And no my G60 is not pron free.

I've had my macbook pro for a year now and love it. I got it for college because of lightweight and long lasting battery (6+hours without recharging). I agree with most people that a mac's are overpriced but you get what you pay for. If your main use is browsing the internet a netbook will be perfect for you and it can be had for quarter of the price.

Mac's last forever, me and one of my buddies are on our sixth year with our respective macbooks. No viruses from less than ideal internet behavior, etc, IMO a mac is a great investment, spend a little more up front and get A LOT more out of it.
I'm on this thing for most of the day, and am not one to to diagnostics and "take care" of my computers. I know I should be, as PC's crap out real fast on me because of this, but with my mac I rarely shut it down, always have a bijillion applications running, etc and the thing works just as good as the day I bought it. Also, the upgrade to Snow Leopard (I think they actually may have an even newer one out now or about to come out) is dirt cheap, or you can DL it, or like me you can use a friends disk as unlike with Windows Apple has multi use installation disks.
IMO they are well worth the money.
PC lovers, I am aware that if I were a more responsible computer owner PC's would not give me problems, but as is, Mac's allow me more freedom to disregard software updates, fail to shut down the computer, and be a generally bad computer owner
