Anyone know if this is possible? Will it be blocked in the dorm? Will I have to wait to find out? Will the computer get too hot/loud? What if I don't over clock?
If it works out I'm thinking of buying a separate machine for this.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking of just running one PC on the side. I found some low-power, high end cards that are about ~$250, and I figured I could put it all together for ~$450. Running very conservative estimates, I estimate ~$500 per month that would cover the startup.
I've heard of people farming out their apartments and crazy **** like that. O.O

Some ways to farm:
1. Leaving a computer on as long as it's near 70-75C for the GPU is fine, it'll have a shorter life-span but realistically the cost of the GPU can be covered.
2. There's a site that allows people to farm using the CPU (much slower), but w/o having to install anything. You can also embed a bitcoin farmer on your site so everyone that stops by will automatically farm for you slowly, only useful if you have a lot of visitors of course.

Something Awful, among other Internet ne'er-do-wells, was blamed for "crashing the BTC" and causing it to lose about 40% of its value in the span of 30-minutes.

Hello good sir, allow me to aware you on what is happening in this thread. I will try and keep this simple as to avoid any mindblowings.
Bitcoins are online currency that you can 'mine'. After mining you can sell them for real dollars. However, mining them takes up electricity and sometimes it is banned on some networks. You mine it by using a computer program that is offered for free.

answering for reps
1.) You mine using an application. One popular one is guiminer.
2.) It's calculating algorithms or something, don't know for sure. Still a newb at this. All I know is that it uses a ****ton of graphics card usage. CPU doesn't matter as much.
3.) You can but it would be laggy and slow down the mining.
4.) Good comparison.
5.) I believe some applications have that option.
I'll find the old threads and post
