How does bodybuilding impact the life of a business man or woman? Is it positive, do people take you more or less seriously, as more or less intelligent and competent, or do you just look like someone's bodyguard? I am wondering about the implications of bodybuilding on building a career in a F500.

Well, I'm not a bodybuilder, but strangers always seem to remember me because of my size and that I compete in strongman, which is a really good thing in business, IMHO.

It is like every walk of life. Some will admire you, some will be jealous, some will not care. Be good at your job and develop credibility and things will take care of themselves. The biggest challenge I have is answering questions for people about working out and nutrition.
Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven... so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matt. 6: 1-4

I work for a Fortune 500 company in a senior role.
It's a non issue for me. No one really cares.
There a re a few people senior to me that are into marathons.
I care as much about their running as I'm sure they care about my weightlifting.Insta: flexjs

I work at a F200 company and I think it has only helped. The only negative I hear is usually from a fat ass who hasn't seen his dik in 10 years. Other than that I get positive feedback. That being said, when I am at work it doesn't come up much. Usually only with those that also workout

I own my own corporation so... Some days I like myself others not too much.
Seriously, I think anything that makes you memorable is a good thing. In a huge company anything that makes you stand out from the crowd is a positive.Workout Log ( currently Big Beyond Belief by Leo Costa )

Definitely help in my job look like a professional. However I have to keep weight inside would say 220 pounds. Aside in my kind of work actually women choice who will do project and they definitely tend to like someone fit around - fit looking is straight money in my pocket. Actually how I started go in gym again in 2009 I was like 235 in winter. Watching myself in mirror I thought - nobody will hire me looking like that (Just add here. When I said hire I don't mean be haired by some company (God forbid) with owner with 2 years of school, I mean hired by customers).
I don’t like run so straightforward is rest.
Basically I look body building like part of my job, aside esthetical motivation.Last edited by bbsitum; 06-14-2011 at 02:44 PM.

Multiple studies have shown that given two otherwise equal employees, employers tend to favor the fitter of the two with higher raises and/or more rapid promotions. Obviously, if one is brilliant at their job and the other poor, then fitness won't matter. On the other hand, if other factors are equal then statistically speaking being fit helps.
I don't know about whether there is an advantage to bodybuilding specifically, but there is a documented bias against fat or obese people."The LORD is my Strength and my Song, and He has become my Salvation! This is my God, and I will praise Him, my Father's God and I will exalt Him!" - Exodus 15:2

I own my business and have to believe how you look is often a first and lasting impression. A person well-groomed, articulate, and in good physical condition eludes confidence and discipline. Maintaining an attitude that is confident without intimidation will help you achieve success, regardless of your aspirations.

Achieving a nice physique leads to being proud of your body and, thus, transfers to your self pride. Pride is based on accomplishments and, knowing that you are accomplishing that which you put yourself to, gives you pride in everything that you do. Ultimately, this leads to confidence which then makes you take on new accomplishments and thus, a positive cycle begins. The key is to jump into the cycle and not break in at all costs e.g I am going to have a six pack in 4 weeks despite I have man boobs and I am going to hit the corporate gym in the breaks between the strategic planning meetings while eating powdered liver with soy milk.
I highly recommend weight training to all business people. However, I recommend smart training based on achieving goals, not just mucking around in the gym with 5 pound dumbbells and a sweat band on the head while drinking Evian. Then, you are just chilling out which you might as well do at home instead with your family/wife/friends/whoever.
Success builds success.

I own a dog grooming shop and pet supply store. All natural and holistic and I am VERY selective about what I sell in my store for pets. I wear tank tops and jeans mostly cause I get so wet during the day and people are always commenting on my fitness level and my arms and shoulders. I tell them I have to stay in shape to wrestle all their doggies around.. LOL! Actually it does help with my business because they see how dedicated I am to taking care of myself (there is piles of fruits and veggies around the shop) and they believe I have their pets best interests at heart.. So it works well for me..

Your brains go a longer way than your physique in the work industry. Your performance/individual contributions will have a better effect on your boss/company than your 6 pack.
I work in the IT industry (backup Lead for my team when my lead is not around) for a nation wide medical company and been awarded twice this year for some individual efforts on projects (Amex bonuses). And I was 225 pounds :-).
I have over 3000 users just for my site alone and I've met all kinds...skinny, obese, Santa look-alikes, hot, sexy, 'was 200 pounds once but now 150', and vice versa etc. Now that I've lost like 12-15 pounds, sometimes I get a "hey...u on a diet or something" and that's about it. People don't care really. If your work is anything like mine, it's chaotic, stressing , busy, demands from everybody and a project deadline around the corner like every day.

You are right that your work speaks volumes (it should). If you think your physical appearance doesn't matter, well, I would disagree 100%.
I owned my own business (still do) for 22 years, and did great, even when I was 264lbs. However, the response to me at 178lbs is 100% different. It may well be the way I carry myself, IDK. But, fat people get treated differently (aka: not as good), even by other fat people. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

It should only be a positive thing. As far as self confidence and drive and passion goes, a bodybuilder would be way better off than your introverted, fat guy. The better you look, the more $ you make and the more room for advancement you have (proven fact). You will hopefully look better in a suit, making you look like more of a serious, dedicated business man who is there to get **** done, not just collect his paycheck.

It really depends on the field, workplace and culture created around health. If you are with one of those progressive places that has already understood the correlation between health and a competetive advantage then you should be golden. In the market driven economy it's interesting to see where companies that place value on health promotion instead of just providing health care benefits rank. In real life your health definitely impacts your overall wealth and quality of life.
EAT real food, DRINK lots of H2O, and be MERRY, but keep doing the work.
