Question Do I have some potential for a fitness competition?

    Hey!

I've been thinking of doing a fitness competition for a while. I'm presently trying to add lean muscle mass as I feel that I need to be a bit more muscular, especially the arms. I'd welcome any constructive feedback you may be able to provide on weaknesses areas that I should focus on, etc.. Right now I'm at around 220, at a 13-14% BF I'd say (as per the calipers). I know that I will obviously need to lean down prior to a competition, but right now my focus is on increasing my lean body mass.

    Thanks for your help!

I think it's really hard to tell how you'd do as there's really no definition at the moment. To be honest, EVERYONE looks great with the proper proportions and low body fat. So when it comes down to it, you already have the right idea. Build up and lean down!

Looking at your pics, you have a good foundation. You have a rather large back, which gives you that wide look. You also have a good chest, but even the biggest chest looks scrawny after you lean down. I would work everything, but focus on the arms, shoulders and chest. DO NOT neglect legs either.

If you need any assistance, shoot me a PM. I own a nutritional and fitness consulting company and I have a guy on my team who focuses on adding muscle. He went from a scrawny little kid to a humongous natural bodybuilder, so he knows a thing or two ;-)

Let me know if you need any aid.

    Good luck!

Come out to the Ottawa IDFA Show July 16th .....which is the next show I will be doing. Check out the novice men's categories and you'll get a good idea about the level you need to be at to be competitive. This way when you look in the mirror later you'll be able to answer this question yourself. If you do go, say hi.

EDIT: Hit the traps hard....you have no traps. Arms and shoulders as well. I would hit the legs hard too.

Roasted is 100% right. Go look at the show and look at the physique of the winner. It'll take a while to probably get to his condition, but just look at the overall shape.

Thanks very much for your input guys! Much appreciated. I have lots of work ahead to get that quality physique, but with consistence and persistence, I'll get there!! I will likely but at the IDFA competition in July! I'll stop by to say hi for sure. Cheers!

Addition: Actually, I did attend a fitness competition in April, and I really enjoyed it. Attending the competition confirmed that this is something I really want to do. I was able to identify some areas I needed to work on. From that moment, I decided that I will work hard to get there, and once I have a good physique, will get on stage.
