how much cardio should i do while bulking?

I just want to do enough cardio to keep the extra stomach fat off during my bulking phase. do you think 15-20 min of cardio a week should be enough? followed by some ab work?

Depends upon the intensity. If only performing cardio for 15 minutes per session, I would increase the frequency to maybe twice or three times per week.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

If bulking = going over maintenance, then you can't lose any fat, right?

Cardio is done for the cals burning it gives, giving you more deficit and health benefits of course.

Abs work doesn't remove your stomach fat if that's what you implied. It just work your abs.

ab work doesn't burn stomach fat? that's interesting, I guess whoever first came up with the idea of ab training just wasted all their time then.

You can't spot reduce. Your body determines where to burn off the fat. Your job is just to create a deficit. Stomach is the stubborn fat part, and it's hard to lose them.

Abs training are not a waste, they still work your abs.

I'm just taking a leap here but...

Say if you were bulking on a high fat, low carb diet and doing IF at the same time,

and you did cardio in a fasted state, would you not be burning bodyfat because your glycogen stores are empty? Your fat would be your only source of energy.

Then in your feeding phase, eat over maintenance to build muscle.

In theory, couldn't you build muscle and burn fat at the same time now. And again, if you were bulking on a high fat, low carb diet and doing IF at the same time.

if you clean bulk you shouldnt have to worry to much about abs or gaining useless fat... Imo the saying holds true you're what you eat! if you're going to workout for 2 hours then binge on a double cheese pizza, while next guy is eating protein, chicken and vegies whos going to maximize their results?

Just an example.. if your really worried about losing abs to bulking, dont be, I clean bulked and mine remained exactly the same...

I do 30 mins, twice a week, just to keep fat from accumulating while gaining weight. But usually the cleaner the diet, the less cardio you need to do.

I think there should be a stickie with these details; "When you're bulking, you're eating a surplus of calories in order to feed the muscle for new growth. You will retain some fat during this phase it's inevitable. Doing cardio will not prevent this from happening. If it does prevent fat from accumulating, it is primarily because you are burning off the surplus of calories with your cardio. Therefore you are no longer bulking."

This makes alot of since. thanks man, I think im just going to bulk to where I want to be and worry about the extra fat gain afterwards. This would probably be easiest. And the "clean bulk" I've decided is a myth. I suppose its possible but it will just slow your gains IMO.

Don't get too hung up on terminology. You can call it what you want, but what "clean bulk" means is: you ate in a calorie surplus that wasn't excessive, gained mass, and did not put on any or little fat because you didn't overeat.

As far as slowing your gains down... well, that's just a matter of adjusting on a week-to-week basis. You can eat well beyond maintenance and while you will maximize your muscle growth, you will gain fat in the process... the complication is finding a good balance.

I think it's pretty subjective based on your goals.. Personally I'd do some dropsets (Youtube Scott Herman fitness) and stretch..

Actually Cardio is good Even on Bulking, It increases the amount of oxygen and healthy red blood cells, nourishing muscles for fast growth and recovery. Improved circulation also helps nourish the muscles during exercise, allowing for more endurance. If you run like 30min and burn 200-300calories(or more) you just need to cosume the 200-300 calorie you just burned while doing cardio to keep the Calories Surplus you need to Bulk, Good luck.
