Probably based out of 3rd edition which on page 169 does have both of those listed. You using the updated app?
Either way I did notice the app made a mistake or two when i was using it but overall its helpful, good job keeping a eye out!

"Success Can't Be Forced"
Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but after finishing certification, if one is struggling to make their own document or paper for assessments or an OPT Model, NASM has already done so (Just found this today, saving them all to computer )

So I've written the study guide for first 7 chapters now.
This is a FANTASTIC way to study. IMO if you learn best by reading/writing then start your own little blog and just write out a study guide as you read along in the book. It forces you to slow down, and trying to explain difficult concepts in writing for others really reinforces it in your own memory and helps you learn it.
Of course if your mindset is just copy what is on the page without thinking, then it won't do you a damn bit of good, so focus on learning the material and re-stating it. If you can restate all of the main points and definitions that the book gives you then you will gain a very good understanding of the concepts being taught.
So far I've written out like 15,000 words I think but it's seriously so helpful in not only prepping for the test but actually mastering the material, which should be your goal - be the best personal trainer that you can be, not just learn enough to pass a test.

This is the way I have been studying and I hope it pays off for me in the end! I signed up at the end of April, have until the end of Oct to take my test. I am studying the chapters by the order they are in the weekly emails from NASM but NOT in the timeframe - that is way too fast for me. I read the chapter and highlight, then go back through the chapter taking notes and making flash cards on what I have highlighted. Then I watch the online video on the NASM website and answer the questions. The chapters as presented in the emails are not in order and I am confused about some things, but I am studying in the order given because there is a reason they are presented in that order. For example, week one was chapter 1 and then chapter 13. Week 2 was chapter 6 (Fitness Assessments) and the muscle index. I find myself with some short periods of time (lunch hour, waiting at doctor's office) so I bring my book everywhere and I have been reading ahead. I have read and highlighted chapters 1, 6, 13, 7, 8 and 9, and done the notes and online activities for chapters 1, 13 and 6. The emails are already on week 6 and I have read only the chapters up to week 3 but I am taking my time. It is slow going but I want to be able to understand the concepts before I move into the next concepts. I know I need to memorize the muscle index and I keep putting it off because it overwhelms me, but I have a tendency to make things harder than they are! Also all the charts in the book - I'm a little scared to tackle them too. Not gonna lie. LOL I hope the way I am studying will help me in the end! This forum is awesome! I have already learned a lot from it!

passed it! It was not easy but not too hard ... i think if you don't mastered all the program, you fail, every detail count!
( i had a question like that: "In the barbell Clean, what is the position of the wrists as the elbows move under the bar?>> hyperextend)
I studied 3 months, between 8h to minimum 2hours per day, and after passed the pratice exam, i continued review and review.
The lasts weeks before, ive done 2 pratice exam every day ( from the smartphone application+ these:
*proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=final-exam-ii
*proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=nasm-tutor-final-exam
*The pratice exam on the link the give in the 1st page of your nasm book "thepoint"
I had a lot of questions from carbohydrates
A lot of questions from stretching
Some questions about spotting techniques
Some questions about water
A lot about muscles imbalances, pronation distortion, low back arches, etc
Maybe 5 questions from the pratice exam.
good luck, and work hard!

Hi there! I signed up in March, but am not getting any emails from NASM. Did you sign up for them or do they go along with eTeach? Any info is appreciated!

Hey alright, got a 81% on my first practice exam and have only read first 13 chapters in the book so far.
The way I've been studying has been to type out a massive study guide as I go. Literally a few thousand words per chapter. It forces you to slow down and typing the words ensures that you're actually processing the information and not just breezing over it. I think two weeks I should def be ready for this test.

Hi! I didn't pay for eteach. I got an email that asked if I wanted to sign up to receive weekly emails brought to you by eteach that basically tell you what hapters to read and then what videos to watch. It is very fastpaced and I gave up trying to keep up because I work full time and have kids with activities, etc. I think it is more geared to someone who can devote 8 hours a day to studying. They basically say they will get you ready in 9 weeks. This is week 8 and they are already doing the practice exam. Some weeks have 4 chapters to read. It' s a lot! I am studying the chapters in the order they are suggesting. How are you doing since starting in March? I still haven't memorized the muscles. I know some people say to group them but I'm not sure how to do that?

Congratulations on the 81!!! That's great that you did so well with not even the whole book done. I have been writing out tons of notes. It is tedious because I am writing and not typing, but I feel the same way - it definitely forces you to slow down and focus on what you are learning.

How is everyone learning the muscles? Memorization? I have to tackle these. I know some people said they group them by their isolated function; do you mean just writing all of the ones with the same isolated function on a flash card? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Future NASM certified..
This is by far the best thorough post I've ever read and thank you for taking the time to write all the details. I'm interested in becoming a personal trainer and wasn't sure to whether enroll in lifetime academy school or study it myself. I'm currently in nursing school so I am familiar with a lot of the A&P section. If you don't mind me asking but what was the name of the book that you studied from when you referred to "page 169"?

Hey guys ,after posting these past few weeks in here I constantly get pms regarding taking the NASM but that doesn't bother me at all , I am making this post to help everyone in the future on taking the NASM.
My NASM experience was a very long one, I drove 3 hours to fail it by 1 point! This was the first test I have ever failed in my life and more then anything it made me very angry I could fool myself into thinking I was ready like that.
So I decided at that point I no longer wanted to pass the NASM, I wanted to "teach it" , I didn't want to "pass" it. I wanted to not miss a single question in the whole exam. I began studying the test and would draw graphs on dry erase boards everyday, I made 350 note cards and read every tip I could find, I being a fitness nut and working out 2 hours a day 6 days a week applied NASM in every workout I did and developed a real understanding of the text. I talked to the head NASM instructor multiple times on the phone and probably bugged him to death...
And having the test scheduled the LAST possible day I could I studied like crazy everyday. But then it happened, I could get 100% on the practice exams everytime without memorization and do all my 350 note cards only missing 1 or 2.
So I rescheduled my exam for the next day , and went with my family and friends to take it...
TIP: Make your testing day a fun day , plan a nice dinner afterwards , this way if you fail you still will have a awesome day and wont be discouraged
My family dropped me off and 26 minutes later I called them, I told them I was done and passed it. Now NASM CANNOT give exact numbers on your score but secretly they do keep track of %s to determine if the test is too easy or too hard and what questions people are missing the most. After talking to a few Representatives one finally told me I scored within the top 7% of exam takers recorded and could not believe my time and said that was unheard of....
So I truly was "over-prepared" , but do i regret it? No... think of it this way , once you take the test its OVER , your a NASM trainer for life and never have to be retested on the whole book again. So study as hard and as long as you can until you pass it.
P.S this is a work in progress and after starting it tonight I am very tired considering it is 3 AM, So I will finish it over the next few days. I will add a complete list of what I studied the hardest , and what I read right before the exam as instructed by the head NASM instructor. BUT I WILL NOT tell you a cheap way to pass or give you a COMPLETE guide. I am not here to make you pass without YOU putting in the time , but I guarantee if you follow this and do appropriate studying you to will be "Over-Prepared"

As I understand, the CPT study guide was made to let us know what is covered on the test. Can I assume that if it is not in listed on the study guide, it is not on the test?

Ok just found this thread and I have to step out for a bit but wanted to go ahead and post. Is there an android app that is good? Also I've seen a few free resources, any one have the study guide from Nasm?? as mentioned above(or is this online at Nasm?) I got busy with other work and have about 40 days to cram before my prepaid test date is up.
