I'm the least person aware of drugs.
I've never smoked weed in my life, I stay away from all sorts of drugs.
I just found out that my best friend has been doing Oxycontin for the past 7 months.
He breaks the pills and sniffs it.
I've done some research on google but how bad is this?
And how bad can it get?
How do I help him?

Withdrawal is bad from what I hear.
Also I know a lot of older people who have to take pain pills everyday and let me tell you, after years they are no longer the same person. They forget ****, they stutter, all sorts of weird crap.| ♫Audiophile♫ | To ∞ & → | The Ohio State University Alumni |

They're very bad.
You can't help him, he needs to want to help himself.
I hope this thread gets deleted.

Best man in my wedding went to rehab twice for oxy's. Extremely addictive and the withdrawal (from what he told me) is so bad most ppl don't even bother to quit. Scary thing is oxy is so expensive that many user eventually start using heroine. You need to talk to him now and throw everything on the table. We basically had an intervention for my friend. It's a lifetime battle, he can't even drink anymore bc that's why he relapsed.

Bad stuff . . .
I was on oxy for pain when I broke my back & for the reconstructive surgery. Got off it as quick as I could, bad stuff, scary hallucinations.
Best Regards,
Ed

You can't help him. Judging him, telling his parents, getting on his case, will all just drive a wedge between the two of you and he'll cut you out of his life. Either accept what he's going to do or don't hang out with him until he cleans up.

depends how often he does them and how he does them.
If he's doing them weekly, I'd be concerned.
If he does dangerous amounts when he does do them, I'd be concerned.PMC - MMMC - 92B

very bad man, i used to be on it for legit pain issues. Still have pain but not on it anymore. It really depends on how much he's doing a day. they go for usually a dollar a milligram from what i've read on the internet, the withdrawl is horrible, cold sweats, fever, chills, can't eat, diarrhea, he will feel like hell for a week or two, then he will get PAWS, post acute withdrawl syndrome. it's bad stuff man. He'll probably need to seek out a treatment center

They call it "Hillbilly Heroin" for a reason (except now way more than just hillbillies use it).
It's one of the most addictive substances that you can use. Many professionals would say it is impossible to quit without treatment.

He will start free basing it soon then he will start to slam it and once he realizes how expensive it is, he will jump into heroin because its the same high but cheaper. I've seen a few friends go through this already.

Damn man help your friend out, srs. I would say it's a slippery slope, but it sounds like he has been sliding down it for a while now and is already addicted. Coming from a former opiate addict I can tell you first hand that it is an extremely hard addiction to break. I have seen multiple friends get addicted, and had a few OD. Clean now btw, and I get sick to my stomach thinking about some of the stuff I did to get high back in the day. (no dick sucking, just pawning **** I really liked, stealing from roommates)

NarcAnon is for drug addicts like AA is for alcoholics. They have meetings all over the country. Try to get him to go to one.

what is so great about oxycontin and similar opiates that makes them sooooo amazing to take? like what's the feeling like? ive been prescribed percs and vicodin but heard its not the same as oxycontin.
-
06-03-2011, 07:56 AM #27
Vics and Percs don't even compare to oxys. I was on oxy for a couple of weeks when i blew my knee out. Remember just laying in my bed staring at the ceiling, feeling like I was floating and just did not give a **** about a single thing. Like I said, very addictive and most people get to a point where they switch to heroine bc of the cost. My friend that went to rehab was doing like 4-5 80mg pills a day which run like $55 a piece. Like someone mentioned earlier, it really is disgusting how many dr's are prescribing this **** for ppl who don't truly need them, knowing the possible outcomes.
