Did a quick search, most threads were pretty old on this topic.
Was wondering which one you guys would pick and why?
Im a business student, I need a laptop mostly just for fast internet (pr0n), microsoft word/excel, download maybe 4-5 movies in total. No gaming at all.
I will be taking it to school everyday so needs to be relatively light and compact.
Any suggestions? I will be keeping it for a good 4-5 years. My current Sony Vaio has been running since 2005. I was looking at another Sony Vaio or Macbook Air.
Thanks brahs

thanks everyone
im not into the whole hardcore "build-it-yourself" laptop type of thing.
I'd rather go into the mall, pick one already made and buy it as is.
Will be buying it today or tomorrow, my current Vaio got some sh!t virus and every single thing got deleted. I dont even have a desktop right now. It sucks!

@jamie93
I stated my point, if money isn't an option then I would recommend a Mac.
I would obviously choose Mac over the two being that I've used a Mac for 4 years now and would never go back, and I have two Apple qualifications, working on my third.
It's of course a matter of personal preference, I was merely stating what I would recommend from my point of view, as OP said he would get money off a Mac anyway.

Im on the fence. I guess theres no one answer eh?
Markup on Apple is rediculous, but they do seem to keep there value.
ONe thing I dont like about mac is when a new version comes out, the old one looks very outdated.
Im not looking to add any memory, storage etc, i just need a really fast computer that I can surf the internet and use microsoft office on. Im not sure which one would give me the better value.

Thanks
Recently my sony vaio started to crash every 10 minutes, and the screen would go white (i could still see thru). Would this happen to Apple computers as well?
Where I live, Mac Air is $1200, Sony Vaio is about $900. As I said, I will be keeping the computer for the long term, so I'd rather spend more money now then buy another laptop 2 years from now.

"I need a laptop mostly just for fast internet (pr0n), microsoft word/excel, download maybe 4-5 movies in total. No gaming at all."
MICROSOFT = Windows = Get a PC
download movies = same on both (utorrent and vlc player for both)
no gaming = irrelevant = if you want bluray playback on laptop its going to use powerful video card
now since you are a STUDENT I assume you are not rich to be able to afford software like photoshop/microsoft office/etc so you will easily find those in torrent sites for PC but hard to find for MAC (and if you do find MAC versions they will be older version most likely).
Get a PC
