Best Things to Eat Before Bed while Cutting besides Casein Shake.

I've been doing some research on this and I'm curious as to whats the best thing to eat before bed in order to keep muscle mass while cutting.

I'm a classic endomorph. I have a pretty good deal of muscle mass go along with all the fat I've accumulated over the years. I've always had good delt and tricep definition even when I was a lazy slug.

My BF is around 29% at a weight of 257, so I'm figuring that I should have somewhere between 150-170lbs of Lean Muscle mass, which I would love to keep.

Buying Casein powder right now is a little out of my budget, so what are the best slow digesting foods to eat before bed and how much in order not to go catabolic and lose too much muscle. I know that I should also eat about 1.5 grams of protein per LBM pound throughout the day.

I understand that some muscle mass loss is unavoidable during a cut, esp a big one like this, but I would like to keep it as minimal as possible.

Just get whole foods which consist of casein. Problem solved (google)

    E.g.: cottage cheese, curd cheese...

Cottage cheese is great but I really wouldn't worry a massive amount about losing muscle mass, there are plenty of people using IF style diets where you aren't eating for 16+ hours at a time an it has very little effect on muscle loss while cutting.

This! Also doing IF. No need to worry that much about catabolism

Interesting. Not too familiar with the IF diets, but some of the threads on here have people saying good stuff about them. Basically no more than 500 cals during the day and then one big feast at night if I'm getting the gist of it right

But back to the topic, so is the whole eat slow digesting proteins (casein) before bed or you'll lose muscle just broscience? I've read a couple of threads and articles on it, seems like its accepted conventional wisdom. With the IF diets being eaten at night, if it were true then I'm supposing this would keep them from going catabolic...?

If you have sufficient protein intake throughout your day then you should be fine in regards to keeping your muscle mass while you sleep. Personally, I like to have a bit of Natural PB before bed because the fats seem to help me sleep better, especially when I'm on a cut. Just my experience though, ymmv.

A big protein meal takes many hours to fully digest, you don't digest it all in a couple of hours and spend the rest of the night losing muscle.

well what you mean is warrior diet i think (its also simliar)

but the "normal" IF is eat NOTHING 16hours (no calories at all)

and then eat everything within 8hour feeding window (and here its much more important to eat slow digestive protein and a bigmeal as you wont eat not only for 8hours but for 16 - thats why I add some olive/fishoil to my caseinshake)

    Greets

Uh, no calories for anywhere from 15 - 18 hours and then eating all your calories within a smaller window of 8 - 6 hours actually.

1.5g per lb of lbm is overkill at your weight and body fat and bodytype. Endos naturally keep on muscle mass moreso than other types. 1g per lb of LBM is more than enough until you get into the lower teens bf% wise.

Meal timing is irrelevant. Just hit your daily macros and don't worry about food before bed unless you need something to help you sleep.

I like to eat broccoli with cheddar cheese when cutting. Casein and a fat burner, with fiber to keep you full all night.

I think people fear losing muscle too much on a cut. If you eat adequate protein and lift you will be fine. If you are fat, concentrate on losing the fat. Tons of bro-fear out there that says you will lose muscle 3 hours without eating. You need to fast several days before tapping into muscle gains.
I do IF and only eat between 10am to 6 pm most days. I go to bed on an empty stomach and I've not lost muscle. In fact, I am stronger than I was a year ago when I was fat. Most people will say 1.5 g/lb of protein is not necessary. Supplement industry pushes that number to sell stuff. Most studies show no benefits of huge amount of protein vs moderate intake.
