Bands on collars or knurling?

When setting up band work, is there a "best" place to secure them to the bar... Over knurling/inside of collar before first plate/far outside of collar?

I'm trying to setup a deadlift platform, and I see most platforms have the bands running over the knurling. I would assume this would put more wear on the bands, maybe its a non-issue.

We just set them up over the knurling. It's not ideal, but it's not as much of a band-killer as you'd think.

could always put a rag or something on the knurling there, maybe with something to hold it closed
