Different strokes for different folks. It takes me at least 48-72 hours to fully recover from a heavy leg day. Lots of stretching, adequate rest, and light cardio a day or two after tends to speed things up as well.

I squat on Monday and Friday and since switching to this frequency, progress has never been better.

Of course the rest period depends on how much volume you do in a given workout.
Strength + Speed = Power

If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

I let mine rest 6 days. They bulge out and continue to grow in size and strength.

^this. depends on what you are doing. if you are hitting them so hard that you can't walk, once a week is probably enough.

It depends on intensity. I had done a program where all you did for legs was squats. When doing that program, I was able to hit legs 3x per week. On my normal split, I hit them so brutally from all angles that they hurt for up to 4 days afterwards. In that case, I'd wait at least 6 days.
Use the tools of the trade to help you. I use devices such as chalk for grip strength, gloves, wrist straps, lifting belts - if it helps you lift more, it's all good. - Ronnie Coleman, Hardcore, 2007 Triumph Books

Biggest question in bodybuilding: Whaddaya bench? As I've said before, it doesn't matter how much you bench; it matters how much you look like you bench... There's no round on stage that's the benchpress round. - Bob Chicherillo, World Class Physique, CMG
