I weigh 140 Ibs , 5ft 4 and bf% 25. I have completed a 12 week beginner and 12 week intermediate weights program alongside running about 35mile per week. I eat a high carb diet.
However, I now want to concentrate on getting to 120Ibs bf% 18 maybe. I am starting my new weights programe tomorrow alongside my new food plan which is 40:40:20 to encourage the fat to come off and build some muscle.
A lot of the articles say to do cardio after lifting weights, why is this so? I alway's go for my run first as it relaxes me and then I'm nice and refreshed for the weights. I do easy runs on weight days and leave my harder running for the days in between.
Would I burn fat faster if I did my weights first and then my run?
Thank
Carina

Hey Carina! from experience, if you run first then your muscles become tired, and wont be able to push as many reps. So i would say for sure do your workout, then go for a run. The only exception is when you are doing a leg workout, then that wouldnt be a problem!

Hi,
Sorry I couldn't find the post until just now. When I figured out I could get to it from my dashboard.
Thanks for your replies. I run for the enjoyment of running not to burn calories. I started lifting weights to ensure that my body was balanced out to counteract the effects of the running. Now I want to improve my running times which involves leaning out, but I don't want to look like a famine victim so I need to ensure I keep or build some muscle. I had notice in the last couple of weeks I couldn't lift as heavy weights as usual. This could have been due to muscle loss or it could have been overtraining creeping in.
I think I will do my weights first and then my running as I'm not fussed about my easy runs.
Carina
