A bit late to the book reader party, but just got the full set and have started the first book. Should be interesting as a show watcher to go back and read the original vision of the story.

Mad King vision parts were cool af
Solid episode overall I thought in terms of progression, not the most spectacular one but that's fine, there still were some great bits (COLDHANDS!!)
PS. I think they combined Coldhands with Benjen, I don't think CH=B in the books*No sig crew*

LMAO just lmao at Samwell. Just sitting there and letting his father disrespect his whole family. I'd tell him never to talk to me or my wife's son again. That'd show him.

Was not expecting the tarly castle to be that big. Would love to know what his father would think if he actually knew white walkers were real. I'd like to know how he expects to get away with the sword though.
Edit: didn't grrm tell his editor in one of the manuscripts that cold hands wasn't benjen? Wonder if he was just saying that.Last edited by ohiostate124; 05-30-2016 at 01:39 PM.

Was a decent episode. ^^^^hnnnng at finally seeing the Mad King. Don;t think there was anything else "new" in the visions.
Worst part was the ending with Dany. The amount of times an episode has ended in a similar fashion, with people looking up to her in admiration and awe, is ridiculous. Was so unnecessary. We saw an episode end with them all bowing down to her after she burned down the temple just the other week, she had their loyalty. Cringed throughout the whole scene. Really hope the show ends with Jon fukin her up. She has the most boring arc in the book along with Brienne and it's not much better in the show
Glad Arya's storyline is finally about to progress, she's my favourite book character so it has been annoying seeing her stuck in one location for so long away from everyone else.
Randyll Tarly was just as I expected. Have they mentioned in the show how he's one of the GOAT military commanders in Westeros? Can already see a lot of comments how people thought the scenes were unnecessary but I see him being an important character in the future wars. Lol at Sam stealing Heartsbane - was it to get back at his dad or becuase he knows Jon could stop a White Walkers sword with Valyrian steel?
I agree with some that the whole KL storyline with Cersei and co has been the weak point of recent episodes, and even with a trial by combat I can;t see how it'll get interesting anytime soon. No interesting characters are left in KL now that Jaime has left so it's only going to get worse.
Need more Stark action with Arya/Sansa/Jon
Will be good to see the Blackfish again. Brotherhood without Banners were also mentioned by Walder Frey, wonder if they'll be relevant going forward.1977

This, I think, is Sam finding his courage and becoming a proper man. You just know there's a "redemption" story in him where he earns his father's respect, right before one or other (or both) of them die on the field of battle.
Really? The King's Landing stuff has been bubbling along nicely. You don't think it's going anywhere? There's going to be an almighty throwdown between the city and the faith in a later episode, if the season trailer is anything to go by. And a trial by combat. And just who do you think will be the Faith's champion? Got hype.
Fairly sure the BWB stuff will be awesome. Hope we see Thoros again. And others.

If anyone hasn't seen the rbeakdown of Bran's visions (stolen from Reddit)
http://imgur.com/gallery/5WMdv/new
idn;t realise there was so much Catelyn. A mention of the Brotherhood without banners and the weapons used to kill everyone at the red winning. In for Lady Stoneheart
Yeah Sam is getting a lot of hate but I feel like he will play a big role in the series.
I didn't say it's not going anywhere, I just don't care for where it's going. It's sort of how I've felt about the whole Dany arc in the show and books in Essos. Both have been "bubbling along" for way too long now, they've longed passed the point where you just want them to get on with it, like Arya's storyline as well. In the grand scheme of things, thinking endgame, how do you think the faith militant storyline will affect it? Just seemed like a convenient way to break down Cersei's chacrter. I also have never liked the Cersei character or found her interesting, so might be a bit biased.Last edited by NasStan; 05-30-2016 at 04:26 PM.

Agree about Dany's story taking too long, it's been spinning its wheels for what feels like 2+ seasons, but the stuff in Kings Landing is actually moving along at a reasonable rate when you think about what's happened there since Joffrey died. It might not have a lot of action but things are most definitely building.
I'm really not sure about the Faith. I hate them, but I also am hoping that Sandor Clegane comes back and defeats his brother. I reckon he won't have actually found God though, but just using it as a way to get at his brother Gregor. Could it be that Gregor loses the trial by combat, which drives Cersei to burn KL to the ground with the wildfire?

I know where you're coming from but the characters at KL atm are not strong/important enough to make that storyline interesting anytime soon imo. Clegane bowl would get me hyped but that's about it. In the grand scheme of things, it just all seems inconsequential when you think about the inevitable Dany invasion and the White Walkers. I guess if the Faith are still around, it mgiht be interesting to see how Dany reacts to them, but I doubt they will be.
I've been thinking about Cersei burning KL to the ground using wildfire. Oringally, when she asked the Tyrell army to come, I was pretty convinced she had some kind of plan to double cross them somehow but in hindsight that made no sense, as the Lannisters need the Tyrell's.
I think only one thing will make Cersei burn down KL and that's Tommen dying, which will probably happen soon given the prophecy of all her kids dying. With Tommen dead, Jaime out of the City, and maybe Margaery playing some kind of power game which results with her in power, Cersei will think fuk it and burn everything before leaving.1977

Just finished the episode. Not a fan. Glad we got to see BenJen/Cold Hands (in the inside the episode the directors confirmed he is Cold Hands). Martin might change it in the books though.
It was nice to meet Randall, but that was a total waste of time. We could have been introduced to him another way.
Needle is back!!! hnnnng
I thought KL was going to finally get juicy. Just another tease . Cant wait to see the Mountain go ham.
Riverlands is about to be the most interesting spot lol. Jaime, Bronn, Blackfish, BwB, Freys all together. Brienne and Pod will get there too eventually. Maybe LSH?
Definitely think it was mostly filler this week. Just setting up for the next few weeks. Im excited for these last four episodes.Order Will Be Restored

YES. Look up a Ball of Beasts. Its a fan edit that combines both books chapters in the optimal order. It was nice reading events that tie into eachother and not having to go back and restart the timeline twice. The books were originally written to be read as one, but were separated by region due to sheer size, but its the best way to read it. That way you also wont have to go an entire book before reading up on Jon or Tyrion. Trust me, its the best way to read it. Here are reviews by others who all agree:

Seriously
I came into this season expecting the Tyrells to bring their army into the city within the first two episodes, led by Randyl Tarly.
Instead we had to wait 6 episodes for it to be led into the city by an imbecile. Making matters worse, we had to sit through a 15-minute long Sam scene just to meet his dad.

an editor who is working on a multi-volume book series absolutely has to know things in advance. this way they know what to cut and what to keep in terms of characters, details, etc. also, the way George RR martin writes (and why it takes too long) is that he basically just writes in these giant, unmanageable chunks that the editors then divide into books. That's how Feast for Crows and Dance of Dragons got split up even though most of both those books take place at the same time.

Everything is pointing to Stoneheart..
I think show watches are going to think the show has gone full ham if so. Bring back Benjen, Jon, Mountain, maybe the hound and now Caitlyn? Seems too much.
