Anyone here learn on a 1000cc bike? (pics)

I know someone selling a 2004 Ninja ZX-10R for pretty cheap (can pobably get it for under 5K), the only catch is it will be my first bike and this thing is a absolute monster. 1000cc supersport bike. I would much prefer something smaller to start with but the price is so hard to resist because i could probably sell it for a profit in the future (if the bike hasnt killed me yet).

So, has anyone here learned to ride on a 1000cc bike or similar? I've been searching around and pretty much everything i read tells me it's a bad idea but I don't see why. If i just take it easy and don't push the bike too hard it shouldn't be any different than riding say a 600cc (correct me if i'm wrong).

If I land up buying a bike chances are it will be this one so if you can offer any advice it would be much appreciated.

    pics of said bike:

UPDATE: for those who don't want to read all 3 pages and before you tell me i'm an idiot:

I'll look for a smaller bike (250-400cc) for cheaper and then if i love it and want to upgrade to something a bit bigger i will after a few years.

lmao, i'll keep that in mind. That's the one of the main things i read though; how easy it is to flip the bike/pop a wheelie by accident.

Just stay off the throttle a bit, and don't be stupid. Always remember, you are the FRAME of that bike..

    There is a huge difference between a liter bike and a 600. I've owned both and I wouldn't learn on a 1000.

I'm very interested in learning so i have no doubt that I would practice a lot and learn how to properly ride.

1000cc bikes arent forgiving...be gentle and respect the beast and maybe you will still be around next riding season. Good luck with your riding goals for 2011.

OP it also depends on your personality. If you are a thrill seeker, start slow. If you are someone who is careful and thinks before he acts, get the bike.

IDK why you even made the thread. Your going to get it either way ;-).

IDK why you even made the thread. Your going to get it either way ;-).
This is how i see it, most of the arguments I see against starting with big bikes is that the riders will push the bike to far too fast and are general idiots.

    no signal
    cut across 3 lanes
    dont stop at stop signs
    etc
I can agree with this, even if you are very alert on the roads there are so many idiots out there its still a huge risk. Especially if your gunning it past everyone, you will sneak up beside cars fast and they may not even notice you.

I will still have a car though, this will just be my toy for weekends/nice summer days to work.

I learned on a 954. Started riding it without knowing the power of the bike. Personally I wouldn't recommended learning a 1000cc bike because there is no room for any mistakes. If you really want something with some power with getting 1000cc go with a 750.

i started on this very bike ..

1st gen of the zx10r..... they call it a widowmaker for a reason, it is the single most unforgiving 1000cc around . because of its 600 like frame , length and un nannied power like the newer litre bikes

you CAN learn on a litre bike, just gotta be uber careful , dont be stupid cause it will bite back
its not YOU u have to worry about, its the morons on the road that will spook/buzz u just for being on a bike.

yea, i believe this one is in between 300-400lbs, im not sure how that compares to smaller bikes. I'm pretty sure this bike is light for a 1000cc though.
