I've never personally had a problem. I eat more than a can a day. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with it.
But, here's a link that says other wise. FDA doesn't recomend it.

Because I'm a dork...
Here's a link to the EPAs findings.
http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~frf/sea-mehg.html
High levels of mercury cause developmental problems (motor skills, speach, etc). Levels that cause problems in adults (such as brain damage) are mainly seen in diets that are primarily seafood. I don't think that adults (not pregnant or nursing) would have to worry too much about the amount of mercury they are getting from the tuna.

if you never eat things that were not that good for you, i think you would find that you wont be able to eat much at all.
Red wine was supposed to be bad for you 10 years ago, but today one glass a day is supposed to be good for heart disease.
Coffee is also supposed to be not good for you,
Eat as much tuna as you like, when you get mercury posining worry about it then mate.

I eat a lot of Tuna too, but do you honestly think that 3 cans a day for 5 years is a good idea??? If you had a young child and they LOVED tuna would you allow them to eat it like that??? I'm gonna have to say you probably wouldnt chance it...

so how can you tell if you have mercury poisoning?
Cause man I've been feeling "woozy" lately.
Though I've only been eating on avg 1700 cals/day w/ a 6 day workout week, i'm still kinda afraid...
1-2 cans a day of chunk light

http://www.defenders.org/tunamercury/report.html - a study showing the EPA's "measurements" are bunk.
Keep in mind that methylmercury's halflife in your body is about 2-3 months. A heavy metal hair test after eating the tuna for a while should give you some insight into the safety of the diet...
As for me, I like to rotate proteins. Fish one day, chicken the next, beef the day after...keeps variety and stops me from being bored.
