I feel the answer is going to be no, but would it be ok if I did chest one day and triceps the next and alternate, or does that not work since you use tricep muscles in benching and other chest exercises?

Seems pretty inefficient to me. I always skip a day in between or do something else if you want to have separate days for chest and tri. Would be worse to do a chest day directly after a tri day though.
Current PRs:
Bench Press: 200x1
Deads: 315x1
Back Squats: 275x1

^^This depending on your split. It makes more sense if you are going to do iso work for your triceps to do them after chest, but that's just me They are a major accessory muscle to compound pressing movements. If you want to split it out, you should move it away from your chest day so that the triceps has had some rest and might actually benefit from the extra work.

^^^^ This.
(I'm adding another "^^^^" to this thread because "^^^^"s are cool, and it amuses me to piggyback on someone else's advice.)
Such splits offer a direct and indirect stimulation of the arm muscles through the week, say by a back/triceps and chest/biceps pairing. Those sessions do need to be separated to allow for recovery, but what trips most people up is adding a shoulder day with compound movements around the same volume as the day chest is worked. This creates two indirect days for the triceps to the biceps' one. You will typically see the delts being worked primarily with isolation raises if shoulders are on a separate day, or key compound movements being done on the chest/biceps day. Overall there'll be a de-emphasis on shoulders for the program, and/or they will have a different periodization.
Basically, it is doable, but look at the weekly routines for a proper balance in rest, and well, balance.Hums the theme to Superman during planks and LYTPs. Now that you've read this, you will too.
All right boys, now watch how this is done. The key is to put it all in your groin and your back.

I would not have them close to together like that. Almost any compound chest movement is going to involve the triceps. So by working out chest directly, you are indirectly hitting your triceps then turning around and working them the very next day? That doesnt sound too smart. I would hit them hard all together. try, dips, bench press, flat dumbell presses, Incline press (this will involve shoulder indirectly). I hope that helped ya : )
