Question How much protein in a whole chicken? This cannot be right?

I buy a hole [Pre-cooked] chicken and on the nutrition information it says it contains 53.3g of protein per serving and that there is 6-7 servings.

    53.3 x 6 = 319.8g of protein

I decided to weigh the chicken meat [skinnless/boneless] and all up it was bang on 1 pound.

1 pound [16oz] does not = 319g of protein. Does it?

How much protein is it really?

There is a big difference between cooked and raw weight of meats (it varies depending upon cooking method). During the cooking process a large amount of weight can be lost due to water evaporation, fat rendering out, etc.

My guess is it was probably about 3-4 pounds raw, in which case the macros are pretty accurate.

I don't know, I weight my meat raw.

I'll try to simplify things for you. For example, a raw chicken breast is 10 oz. before cooking, and after cooking it would be say 6 oz. (just pulling numbers out of the air). therefore that 6 oz. of cooked meat would have the same macros as the 10 oz. of raw meat.

So the one pound of meat you have from the cooked bird was probably more like 3-4 pounds before it was roasted in an oven.

Do you use any sort of calorie counter? Easy dude. Type in "cooked chicken breast boneless skinless"... then enter the quantity... 16oz. I don't get the issue

Chicken meat is basically 100g protein per pound of raw meat. So if you are to have 300g of protein from chicken, that meat better weigh about 3 lbs raw. Small raw chickens are usually around 4 lbs. So once you take away the bones and the skin, it sounds like you should be on track.

    What is the serving size?

    Research

Chickens don't like to be cooked so its important to weigh them raw. If you ask them how much protein they have when cooked then you scare them and they lose 32% of their protein. Weigh your whole chicken, eat it, feathers too because they're packed with keratin, leet protein, but spit out the bones so you can bury them and let his spirit rest. After you're done, get to the gym so someone can lift some weights for you.
