    Achieving Ketosis

I did keto about 2 years ago and it went very well for me. Now my question is when trying to achieve the initial ketosis, does your body still adapt quicker because you have been through it again or should I expect the "hell week" like I did when I first did a keto diet?

    Different for everyone.

I haven't been in ketosis in years.. yet got into it my first day of trying. I even ate pizza and **** the day before. I used almost a whole stick of butter though so I'm sure that was the trick.

Man I remember it taking me FOREVER. Like 11-12 days. I remember being REAL sluggish and irritable. I hope by going into it faster, it won't be as bad.

No, unfortunately. I was hoping for some kind of "keto memory" too. My last keto was a year ago, and I started back in last week. It has been an absolute bitch getting in and staying in. About to say f*ck it. The only carbs I'm having are 6g in my cottage cheese and fat free Greek yogurt, and 1g each in my coffee cream and Splenda packets...and they are knocking me out. Sucks. Absolutely no easier to get back in than if I've never done it before.

So why don't you just quit the obvious problem foods instead of quitting the entire diet?

if you're getting under 20g carbs a day (80 kcal) why don't you think you're in ketosis?

i haven't noticed an appreciable difference in time getting into keto over the years. you can really expedite the process though if you mix a couple table spoons in water.

It's not just about carbs. The little things can kick you out. I got kicked out by drinking a Diet Snapple. I know I was kicked out as all keto signs went out the window.

A candy bar has around 20 grams of carbs. I wouldn't expect to stay in keto eating one of those a day with no other carbs from anywhere else.

so what is you're body running off of then? you may be kicked out for a short while.. but if you are in a deficit... your body will eventually be back on fat for fuel.

You're right, I just need to cut out the offenders. It just doesn't seem enough to keep me out though.

I've been adding it up carefully the past couple of days, and I am right at or under 20g every day. The problem is I need to be really strict and go to almost zero to really get into keto. I can bump it up later...I really need energy during the day so it's hard to cut out the coffee with Splenda and cream. I have cut down drastically on yogurt and cottage cheese.

I screwed up last night. Made a stirfry of chicken and veggies, but without thinking I put mirin into the sauce, as is pretty standard. Forgot how many carbs are in mirin sake, even though it was only a couple tablespoons for the whole dish. I was "small to moderate" on the ketostix after working out yesterday at lunch, and went negative after dinner. There is no way I have more than a dozen grams of glycogen in me right now, and I'm still not in ketosis.

I'm going to bust my ass at my lunchtime workout, get deep into the purple, and stay away from all these 1-2g carb things that add up. I've noticed that the Splenda really screws it up. I know it has maltodextrin and dextrose in it, and that shouldn't be enough to keep me out, but it does. Same for Equal, Nutrasweet, whatever. And that sh!t is in everything. Hard to find stuff with pure sucralose in it.

you can't always rely on keto stix. if you're drinking a lot of water, you won't show as strong of a trace on them. also, if you show any trace, you are fine. i personally don't use ketostix, i just know that i am in ketosis do to my very low intake of carbs.

if you are in need of energy, get some coconut oil/milk. also, eat red meats.
