Mold in Washer - Wut Do?
Ok, I'm moving into a new place, and noticed mold in the dishwasher. It's located on the bottom where the door "sits" when the washer is closed. The washer has an "antibacterial" cycle which I assumed meant bitching hot water, so I ran it, but the mold is still there. Anyone know the best way to clean it? Thoughts, advice, pics, jokes, are all welcome in this thread.

First with duck/duct tape.
Possibly it needs to sit with the lid open and dry out? (srs)

In the time it took you to type that you could have grabbed a paper towel and a drop of dish soap and cleaned it away.

That is incorrect, because I just remembered about it now; I am not at my new place, I'm at my old place, so driving over there and back would have taken more time than typing this thread out. Ha ha!

Duct tape would've been quicker.

1/2 cup white vinegar mixed in 2 cups hot water. Scrub the area. After you're done, spinkle baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and run through a hot cycle.
If that doesn't work then 1 tablespoon of bleach and run through a cycle.
Good luck!

Thank god for some common sense! I would have the tendency to want to strike a match and walk away. I think I've had **** loads of ear infections with this as the culprit! Mold is not your friend!

Where my dad lives, he has a mold problem. I can't walk into the place right now, I got sick after being there 2 weeks ago. Very serious if you have asthma or are prone to ear and sinus infections.

lol
The baking soda and vinegar MAY work, but chlorine bleach kills molds, period. May as well save the energy and hot water and go straight for what's proven, IMO.

Do an online search for that make and model. See if this is a common issue since it shouldn't happen. I would contact the customer service department of the company that built it and tell them about it.

Bleach is your best bet. It's the only sure way to get rid of the DNA...err Mold.

It sounds like you have a front load model. The cleaning cycle requires a bit of bleach if I recall. The mold and nastyness tend to come from the rubber gasket. Make sure you wipe it out every cycle and leave the door cracked when not using it to prevent it from coming back.
Once I started doing that it stopped getting funky.

Yeah, I would have gone right for the bleach too. And it wouldn't have been a tablespoon lol
It's my go-to chemical to get rid of mold/bacteria.
In case anyone is interested, Kim's vinegar and baking soda tip also works great for getting rid of that awful smell of zombie grime from used protein shakers left in the gym bag over the weekend. Not that I've ever done that. I'm just sayin'...

And, I use baking soda and vinegar to clean my stainless steel sinks and drains. It'll unclog the drain and leave it smelling fresh, without harming your pipes.
