dumbbell shoulder press, do you do it seated or standing?

is it better to do it standing since you're using more muscles?

If I'm standing I do barbell. If I'm seated, I generally do Arnolds.

is there a reason why you should do em seated? I thought you recruit more muscles when standing?

I always assumed that being seated isolated the shoulders better.

Its still a compound if its done seated, but even more muscles are used when standing like your core and legs to stabilize you body, id do Standing Military Presses over Bench Presses since they use more muscles, even though you cant use as much weight.

I like doing my DB Presses seated and I do my Military Presses(barbell) standing.

Seated. When I do them, I do them to work on my shoulders. Standing cuts the emphasis on my shoulders and redistributes it to other places. I have done standing presses in the past, but I get much better results when I sit.

I usually use both in each shoulder workout. Standing presses require more overall body stabilization, so you'll need to reduce the weight a bit.

this is assuming you're already doing standing military presses, would you still do the dumbbell presses standing or seated? Right now I'm trying to do em standing, I'm feeling more muscles working but I'm not sure if I'll be getting the same results on my shoulder's vs when I'm seated.

it is good to mix it up and I feel that when I am seated with dumbells I can really focus on the contraction and really isolate my shoulders as the primary pressing force. But stanidng is great for a full body workout.

    Seated. Bodybuilders generally prefer seated.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

I do the main exercise first to hit more muscles, Standing Military Press for me, then a seated press to isolate the shoulders more, but one thats still a compound exercise.

well i've always done my shoulder presses whether they're db or barbell seated and supported man. i've seen people doing them standing and they're wiggling and shaking all over the place and most of them grab some heavy db's that they can barely get them into position. so for me it's seated so you can focus strictly on your form to work the shoulder.

you can do both. both work the shoulders its just that standing works some stabilizing muscles as well, not that it takes too much away from the shoulders youre still doing the press motion. If you want a different approach to the seated method, grab a big workout ball and sit on that and then do it. Or, a BOSU ball and stand on the flat side then do the presses. Adds a whole new dimension to the workout. Start with lighter weights at first to get used to it itll work muscles you didnt even know were there haha
