Mixing whey protein with milk or water?

Hey everyone! I'm starting my cut and I was wondering, is it better to mix the whey protein powder with milk or water for a post-workout drink? I use "EAS 100% Whey Protein" incase that helps anyone. Thanks in advance!

Does it have to be blended and then consumed immediately? Is it ok if I prepare it before I head out to the gym, take it with me, and then drink it about an hour and a half later?

If you are cutting, I'd use water based on the simple fact that there are less calories consumed. It'll be fine to mix before your workout and consume afterwards. Although if you use milk, it might not taste good an hour and a half later (unrefrigerated).

Using milk is actually better for a few reasons. First all, just as nature constructed it, whey works better with casein. Also, milk will give you the post workout carbs you should not be avoiding. Of course you could add casien or a carb source to the water/whey mix. But, milk is also extra delicious.

All that is subject to your specific goals and situation (lactose intolerance, keto diet etc.)

It's all about the calories and fat you want to consume. If you want some fat, try whole milk... If you want the extra calories, but not the fat - try skim milk. If you just want the protein for as few calories as possible, try water.

Is it ok if I mix the whey with water and have that in the car on my way home from the gym, and then have a glass of milk with my post workout meal when I get home (with beef, chicken, lamb, etc)?

Haha, I'm not a 100% sure what you mean by 'okay'. It's honestly all okay and you shouldn't sweat the little stuff like this too much. If you are asking if it is problematic to separate the casien and carbs in the milk from the whey powder, then yes I guess it will hinder it's effectiveness, but only slightly. You also can just wait until you get home before you have the shake. All this stuff is really a game of millimeters and not all that significant.

Hit you calories, eat healthy and train hard (and lastly hit you macros). If you do I guarantee you will do better than the guy stressing out over timing and trying to get everything exactly right.

Quit overthinking the simple stuff bro. There is no "anabolic window" after working out, so if you want to wait and drain the whey + milk go for it. As mentioned, the casein + whey is a better choice than solely whey. If it helps you increase your fluid intake for the day, go with water leaving the gym and have the milk with dinner or whatever.

Just hit your macros for the day. IIFYM (Nutrition section), go for it.

I dont like the taste with just straight water so I mix my protein with half water and half milk. It makes it taste better, but still does not add that many calories. Its a good compromise if you dont like the taste with straight water.

Milk will slow down digestion rate. For post workout this is not ideal. Some products contain both whey & some milk protein for that simple reason. However, it's added in a proper ratio. I would stay away from milk period. Mix w/water at all times.

It doesn't matter. Doesnt matter if the shake is 30 seconds after training or 30 mins. The milk will give a steady release of aminos.

Take it with water or milk, whatever works best for you, it really does not matter

I think it's all about preference. I mix most of mine with milk but the fruity ones I'll use water. Also I guess what fits your macros as well.

Whichever you prefer and will fit your daily macros brother.

Personally I find shakes in milk, or even just a nut milk (almond/cashew/whatever) are a pretty big step up for taste, so I plan my macros to fit in some of the good stuff

It is really your preference OP.

If you are cutting, then you should be targeting a caloric deficit diet. Using milk or water for a protein shake won't make a difference as long as your calories at the end of the day are the same.
