Nice. How much do you weigh? Don't you walk around at 240ish? 52+" is insane at your weight.
In at 54"!

I am probably about 220-225 lbs right now, but have hit 54-55" @ around 230 lbs before.

Prior to getting into weight training I used to skateboard and I feel like that actually helped me to build a lot of lower body power with all of the jumping and plyometric-type movements.Pro Strongman & Former National Champion

That's crazy at your bodyweight. I don't think I'd be able to do much with a 40-50 lb weight vest on!
Hah! I have often attributed my jumping power to my skating days, both boarding and inline. I was able to jump over a chain link fence with huge skates that were probably at least 5-10 lbs each. Back then, I hadn't lifted much, and was about 140-150 lbs. I did a 57" box jump from a standing start. I think my jumping is probably better for my weight now, but I had hops back then too.637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.

There might actually be a video of me dropping in on a halfpipe from a couple of years ago, one of my training partners down in Florida built one for his son and I decided to give it a go one day.
Thank you, I notice a difference even with about 10 lbs of bodyweight so I would say that weight is a big factor in jumping.
Have you ever tried doing olympic lifts? It seems like a lot of OLY lifters do jumping work and there appears to be some correlation between the two.Pro Strongman & Former National Champion

I think when I tested I did the 2ft box + 7 crossfit bumper 45s from a standstill, whatever height that is. I don't train it, but its mighty fun

I like doing them as a warm up before deads. I feel like it really gets my hips/hip flexors warmed up for pulling. I've never done a max before though.
I also like to lay my tire down and broad jump over it.
I have some 36" saw horses I like to set up for bounds...it's motivating to know that if you miss a jump you will break a limb or castrate yourself.

best ever is 50" at 270ish pounds.
and this was two years ago almost @ 285ish
I need to re-test at 300+
and they are most definitely a test of explosiveness for me, I don't spend any time training them.*Mods/CS will not, nor can they change your username, so don't ask*

When do you guys work in box jumps? Before or after squats? Same day you do power cleans. Or do you do them when you are fresh and don't have squats to do?
…we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

I used to try to do them. but I really didn't like how much of it was "what happens if I miss" and "how flexible am I today" like you can set a "PR box jump" just from being really flexible one day not even better hops.
they have they place in training I suppose, but why try to do them to so high when you can just land strait legged instead?820 raw deadlift at 21 y/o http://youtu.be/PQPviRHx96U?t=1m20s
