I do not know that much about size determination in chickens (meaning idk anything at all), but if I had to guess this is what I would say....
size of chicken does not necessarily relate to the size of the egg. There is probably more factors than just the size of the mother that goes into the size of the egg. Here are some that I can think of off the top of my head
1. Selective breeding for larger eggs (this does not mean that the yolk is the enlarged portion though, it could mean that there is more egg white in the larger eggs), but still selecting small chicken so it takes less to feed them and you can fit more of them into smaller spaces (in the case of factory farming)
2. The diet of the mother (epialleles: DNA methylations and such)
3. I highly doubt that there is only a single gene that controls both the size of the egg and the size of the mother. It is more likely many different genes that all independently assort from one another, thus you can have many different combinations of these alleles. That being said, most of the eggs in the grocery stores come from factory farms where there is literally no genetic diversity."Moderation in discipline is failure"
*all pics and stats are at least 3 years old...just ignore them

If I gave a sh!t I might think about this...but I'll give you a simple explanation. Notice how some blacks are extremely athletic and such, well thats because slave owners would only bread the strong and the fit one's to do all the work (pretty smart) so the offspring would be genetically predisposed to being the same way and thus why true africans that trace there roots back to big nig slaves are genetically bigger then others of the same race. Well same thing with chickens..you want a big egg you bread big chickens, you want b!tch eggs you bread beta chickens.
