    Training with nerve injury

    Anyone else have this issue? I have a pinched nerve in the bottom of my neck. The pain runs across my shoulder, down my tricep and into my thumb and fore finger. I've lost around an inch of muscle off my left arm and I missed 135# on the bench today. I have no more overhead strength on my left side. I've already been to the doctor and had X-rays. They show some degeneration in the c5-c6 area. My chiropractor hasn't been able to get that area adjusted and the pain is 24/7. I see a specialist on the 16th of May but I am wondering if I should keep training to prevent more muscle loss. I'm thinking just light weight, mega reps?

    I have an impinged ulnar nerve. It took over a year to get it diagnosed properly. I know how frustrating it is. It's funny you mentioned light weight and a lot of reps, as I've been doing German Volume Training due to my nerve issue. I think you are right on track with switching up your routine for a while. I'd also recommend a lot of fish oil.

    I HAD what you have. I ended up getting a nerve ablation done 2 1/2 years ago and since then it has been WORLDS better. Doc told me it would last 1-2 years. I'm over 2 years by a few months now and its still feeling good.

    Additionally I saw a doc yesterday for a nerve issue in my elbow. Told me cant do any damage so I can go at it as hard as I can take in the gym. I'm scheduling to get the nerve surgically repaired by securing it or some sh*t like that.

    I have the exact same problem. The only true solution is surgery.

    I have had to drop all overhead lifts, along with anything that puts to much downward force on my shoulders as that has also enflamed the issue. I don't seem to have problems benching, other then like you mentioned the strength loss. It is coming back slowly, oh so f'cking slowly! The problem with trying lower weight/higher reps is that in my case the try only has so much in it. People must think I'm nuts for as many sets of flys as i'm doing.

    Dude I've seen a Chiro or two, and I am a stone-cold believer in it. But there are also some out there who don't understand "us." IMO hey get too caught up in the "gentle chiropractic approach," or something. And while that might be just peachy for a 10 year old boy, or 120lb woman, it isn't going to do jack for someone who DL's 400+ because we're just not made the same. In theory yes, but not in reality.

    I have had that exact same pinched nerve brah, and I saw two different Chiros who neither one could get the area adjusted. Then I found one who damn near beat the sht out of me. No joke, it felt like he jumped on me with everything he had until he got what he wanted out of my spine. It hurt like hell, I was sore as fuk the next day - yet oddly enough I could feel the improvement. All totaled it took like 4-5 adjustments and I was good as new. No atrophy, no loss of strength - nothing.

    Shop around and stop suffering. All chiros are not equal. And good luck...

    Edit: And no, don't train with an injury because you run the risk of making things worse.

    How did this play out? I have been dealing with a similar injury and keeping the weight low and focus that my form isn't breaking down
