Welcome to the official Gold, Silver, and other Precious Metals thread. This thread is to inform, discuss, and educate you on the advantages and disadvantages of investing in precious metals. This first post will be a general overview of common definitions, coins, bullion, places to buy, other forums, news sites, etc. I will be using American coinage and bullion for most of my examples since I am from America and the majority of this board is as well. Remember, take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Nobody here can predict what the future of the market is going to do. Do your research, come to an educated decision, and make a move based on your findings. Let’s begin.
Definitions:
Precious Metal (PM) - rare, naturally occurring metallic chemical element of high economic value.
Junk Silver - Junk silver is an informal term used in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia for any silver coin which is in fair condition and has no numismatic or collectible value above the bullion value of the silver it contains. Such coins are popular among people seeking to invest in silver, particularly in small amounts. The word "junk" refers only to the value of the coins as collectibles and not to the actual condition of the coins; junk silver is not necessarily scrap silver.
Bullion - Gold or silver considered with respect to quantity rather than value. Gold or silver in the form of bars, ingots, or plates.
Rounds – Any PM made in the classic round form that is not backed by a countries government.
Coins - specially minted coins that are distributed and backed by a countries government.
Spot Price - The market price of a commodity. The current price at which a particular commodity can be bought or sold at a specified time and place.

Yeah, one could say this. But the fact of the matter is the misc is a community of people who aren't out getting hammered and wasting their hard earned money on cars, booze, and other dumb****. It is mostly made up of very inverted, analytical people, who tend to be interested in investing.. When you go to a highschool/ college party and you hear people talking about how they are going to make tons of money buying pm's. That is the time to get out. Also, I dont know about you, but I dont know to many people invested in pm's. In fact, 99.99999% of people i know dont know a thing about pm's
