    or

I managed to complete 10reps of 50kg, and i think i could have managed another 2reps?

1-5 rep sets is heavy lifting, imo.

    it's all relative.

Benching 275 is heavy for me, for others that may be a warm-up set.

well, you can lift heavy in the 8 rep range...but when you lower your reps...and hit failure in a lower rep range, you are lifting closer to your 1RM than if you fail at 8 reps.

"Heavy" is relative. To a 16 year old...curling with a 30 lb BB could be heavy to him.

so iv been told to lift heavy, im following a 3-day split from the bb.com article. When i do 12-15reps is that not heavy lifting or is it?
also if i dont manage to complete 12reps should i lower the weight until i can complete full reps?

The general rule for bodybuilding is 6-12 reps. For me its the lower end, and sometimes ill go down to 3 reps on the mass building movements. You just have to see what your body responds to.

    Moderate

However, you'll find people just like to use the term "lift heavy" because it makes them sound more bad ass.

Strength Range = Heavy weight for low reps
Hypertrophy Range = Moderate Weight for Moderate Reps
Endurance Range = Light Weight for High reps

Generally if someone is lifting "heavy" they are in the 1-5 rep range. However, for your purposes (from what I can assume) try to get 8-10 reps. You shouldn't be able to do any more than 10 reps. If you can, then up the weight. Other than that, "heavy" is a relative term.

Heavy lifting is doing a set with a weight you cannot do for 6 reps, and is relative to the strength of the individual. For example Ronnie Coleman reps 200 lbs dumbbells on the chest press for 12 reps. For him that is light weight (which is why he screams "Yeah Buddy! Light Weight!"". However for you that would not even be one rep so would be considered extremely heavy.

dude, if youre struggling at 8 reps that's fine. as long as you're struggling and challenging yourself you will make gains at your age and experience level.

    Now stop.

That is up to you. I honestly don't care what you do with your workout program. It isn't my program to make decisions on.

What I would suggest you do, is work in a rep rnage, not just a target rep.

For example, lift in the 8-10 rep range. Find a weight you can do 8 reps w/ for your sets. Work to increase that weight to 10 reps for all your sets. When you do, increase weight back to a point that allows you to get 8 reps for all your sets and repeat. There is more than one way to make progress, that is one of them.

IMO as well. I do not train in this range too much though.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

    thanks
There's a difference between effort and load.

Load refers to heavy, effort does not.

51 pounds lifted once is heavier than 50 pounds lifted 100 times.

So if someone does 3 reps with 50% of their one rep max... is that still heavy? I think the amount of weight your lifting kinda matters when trying to describe 'lifting heavy'.

Technically heavy lifting is anything over 400 lbs ~175kg.

This is pretty much the technical definition.
