# Thread: Plywood is sold in rectangle sheets 4 feet wide and 8 feet long.

How many 4x8 sheets of plywood are needed to completely cover a rectangle shaped floor measuring 16 feet by 12 feet.

lol not really. its 6. did it in my head

6. six did in head 8 feet pieces will cover one side of the rectangle and extend 4 feet you need to travel 12 feet total so 3x2

7. the answer is six. I work at home depot. come at me bros

16 x 12 = 192
4 x 8 = 32

192 / 32 = 6

Done.

lol thats not the true optimization of materials though.

you would set the constraint as 192ft^2= lw

isolate one of the variables then plug it back into the equation and get the first derivative for the true answer OP.

16 x 12 = 192 sq ft
1 plywood= 32 sq ft
192 /32 = 6

i dont do math either....so am i right?
