Tried searching google, but I couldn't really find a study or anything on the subject. Anyways the idea is that it increases heart rate, thus increases metabolism.
Hopefully mods don't close thread or ban me for this, just wanted to see what the Misc knows or doesn't know.

How does marijuana effect metabolism?
In: Medication and Drugs, Illegal Drugs, Marijuana [Edit categories]
The effect of marijuana on metabolism has not yet been scientifically determined, but its effects on appetite and weight gain HAVE been proven. Those who smoke pot will experience "the munchies," although it is unclear whether this is due to a temporarily increased metabolism or whether it is caused by other chemical responses in the brain. Over time this increased caloric consumption will lead to weight gain, which is why HIV/AIDS patients who need to gain weight may be treated with marijuana to help improve their appetite.

I haven't smoked in a couple days and I've been hungrier than ever. If anything it seems to lower appetite.

I know this is a little old, but I can't find a perfect answer. I always get a mixture of yes and no. But the 50 people I know that smoke weed, they are all skinny as hell. I don't know what their diet is or anything like that. One of my friends was over 300 pounds, and in 4-5 months he was 210 just from smoking weed. But maybe it depends all on the person. It most likely affects everybody differently. I've been on this diet for 4 months, with a 40% carbs, 40% protein and 30% fat with a 2200 cal diet and I have not lost a single pound. I'm 240 pounds.
So, i'm gonna give this stuff a shot. I've done it before, and I don't get munchies at all.

The effect of marijuana on carbohydrate metabolism
MA Permutt, DW Goodwin, R Schwin and SY Hill
The authors observed the effect of marijuana on carbohydrate metabolism in fed and fasting states in chronic marijuana users. They found no hypoglycemia in 7 patients who were given marijuana after fasting for 24-72 hours. They also found no significant difference in carbohydrate tolerance and no hypoglycemia during an oral glucose tolerance test in 10 patients who smoked placebo or marijuana on alternate days. They conclude that marijuana has no effect on carbohydrate metabolism in the fed or the fasted state in well-nourished chronic marijuana users.
