I was reading at Barnes & Noble this afternoon and I noticed a guy in his 20s giving me the eye by the magazine rack. We played the eye contact game for a bit, but he did not approach me and instead got in line at the cafe. Well I got up and decided I needed to get some coffee and stood behind him in line. He pretended not to notice me. I saw that he was carrying a magazine and I decided to say something, so I asked him about what he was reading. He turned halfway around and gave a one-word answer (title of the magazine), and then went back to staring at the back of the head of the person in front of him in line. I was embarrassed enough that I got out of line and packed up my stuff and left. I don't know what his deal was.
I can count on one hand the number of times in my life I've approached a guy, and none of those times did it ever go anywhere. It's not a huge deal because I don't have to worry about this most of the time, but it's kind of annoying having to rely on men to initiate everything.

That must be terrible, to make an approach this one time and have it fail. I expect every man who reads of this awful experience will be extremely sympathic.
"A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

lotsa anger ITT
Don't take it personally, OP. Could have been any of a million reasons this guy wasn't having it today. He may even be socially retarded and never approached by a girl before.
If everyone quit the first time something didn't go their way, this world would be a really weird place.10k+

Maybe I'm solo on this one, but getting rejected is a blast! (srs)
Some of the ways girls squirm and think up what to say is hilarious. Granted its usually, "I got a boyfriend/husband" but that can 20% of the time turn into something anyway.
Your analogy is also very flawed. It would be comparable to playing a football game without the possibility of loss. That wouldn't be any fun at all.
I like to laugh with my buddies about getting rejected almost as much as I like to get the digits/close the deal.10k+
