What kind of protein does greek yogurt have?

    Is it whey or casein?

or does it have a 1:1 ratio of of whey and casein like milk does.
I've tried to Google it, but no luck.

I think milk is actually closer to 80% casein, and 20% whey.
Things like cottage cheese and yogurts are typically higher in caseins and much lower on the whey.
But I do think that greek yogurt has more protein / calorie than cottage cheese.

It's mostly casein. It doesn't matter what type of protein you eat before bed, or whether you eat before bed at all as long as you hit your macros.

It's casein, most dairy is high in casein, the only dairy that is high in whey is ricotta.

    Why

Why even reply if you've nothing positive or helpful to say? I was wondering the same thing...I still don't exactly know. My guess is that it contains a higher level of Casein because its dairy. As far as the guy that said there's no difference in taking whey or casein. There is certainly a difference in the absorption rates of these two proteins, therefore it'd be better to take a long acting protein before bed or between meals (casein) than it would be to take whey as whey's bioavailability is much faster but lasts for less time.

Found this nugget on the Chobani website: chobani.com/faq

"All yogurt starts from the same basic recipe: you add cultures to milk and voila, you’ve created yogurt. Here at Chobani, we take it one step further. We use an authentic straining process to remove excess liquid whey from our yogurt, resulting in its deliciously thick and creamy consistency. "

Absolutely EVERYONE here who replied with NOTHING to add is an asscrack! Those of you with nothing to add, and only ridicule are novices, immature, deadbeats here. It is THE reason most people don't visit this site for ANY information. Most people here aren't serious about nutrition, not educated enough to understand it at all.

My reason for wanting casein at night is to ENSURE my metabolism runs higher longer while sleeping. Because casein is absorbed at a slower rate requires my body to work longer. Some my wish it for the slower distribution of proteins.

Now on to closer answering the question. Greek yogurt is mostly casein. They actually remove the whey in the process of making it. The reason that Greek yogurt has 2-3 times the protein that normal yogurt has is during the process of making it "Greek" and removing the whey, they use roughly 3 times the milk!!

For one cup of normal yogurt, one cup of milk is used.
For one cup of Greek yogurt, three(2) cups of milk is used.

Greek yogurt is a very good way of getting your fix of casein protein.

    ~ Cheers

Yo Bro', last night's dinner called. Says it's gonna be digesting for most of tomorrow, so no need to wait up late. Put the Casein to bed early, and read it some night-time forum stickies to catch up on the past 10 yrs of research.

    3. Ludwig? Really?
    4. If you plan to make a habit of insulting people on the internet, Mr Wagner, perhaps you should reconsider using the same picture & your full name on the multitude of sites you post on. Some people take great exception to being insulted & may go out of their way to retaliate.

My reason for wanting casein at night is to ENSURE my metabolism runs higher longer while sleeping. Because casein is absorbed at a slower rate requires my body to work longer. Some my wish it for the slower distribution of proteins.

You should care whether it's whey or casein

Anyone looking to cut belly fat should care whether it's whey or casein. Whey protein has been shown to be insulinotropic. What does that mean? Simply put, when you eat whey, it tells your pancreas to secrete insulin, which signals your body to store belly fat. Casein does not have that reaction in the body. So yeah, you better care!!
