They ended up burning the fcking buildings down, but nowadays, you can still get shot just for the sake of it being a Tuesday.

Sounds like a nice place lol. When I hit up the west side I just remember being like "wow, I can't believe this is actually part of America." Riding the green line west from the Clinton St. stop by Ogilvie Transportation Station it's amazing to watch the landscape transform from million dollar high rise condos to what honestly looked like... yea probably Lebanon. All that was missing was people openly walking around with AK47's and RPG's.

I guess this was sort of crazy for me because I'm from the suburbs outside Tampa. Even the ****tiest parts of Tampa don't look like the west side of Chicago. If you say the south side is worse, I can't hardly imagine what that looks like lol.

I like to go to areas like that though. Everybody that goes to Chicago sees Michigan Ave and Millennium Park but not places like Brachs, nobody goes there. For me visiting that old candy factory was like walking through a piece of history, a time when America was a better place.

I'm with you on that one. Prancing around looking at skyscrapers with all the yuppies, retirees and children isn't really my thing. It's not what makes a city. You have to find the roots and the core, and feel it. Find something real.

Here you can see the gates they put up so that people couldn't fire from the balconies. They used to have lookouts and sharpshooters who would cut down the cops in the event of a raid.

That's one thing I love about living in small town Iowa. Most of the downtowns look the same as they did 50-75 years ago. The only real changes are the cars parked out front of the buildings. In fact, many of the small towns are restoring the downtowns to what they were years ago.

I did this for a while. Ran up and down Michigan Ave checking out all the sky scrapers etc... Then I got into Urbex and started to really see the city. Urbex is pure awesome. I love photography, I love exploring and I love history. It's easily my second favorite thing to do behind shooting. The only thing better would be if I could combine the two.

Holy **** though dude, thats fckin ridiculous! I never really knew Chicago was [I]thtat/I] bad.

This. I wish I lived in a small town or at least a town with some real history. The suburbs = fcking gay. I'm getting the phuck out as soon as I can.

Thanks brah. I haven't busted open the bottle of Jack yet, I got it as a going away gift when I joined the military. I'm saving it for when the American people grow a pair, take back our country and start living by the constitution again.

Eotechs are good optics. I never had any issue with mine as far as quality goes. The main reason I went with Aimpoint was battery life and weight savings. I'm eventually going to re barrel my 16in to a LW profile barrel so the T1 will compliment that nicely.

BRB getting in a 600 hour firefight?
BRB $200 buys alot of batteries.

the eotech had to go back because the reticle would only show up in the center of the window. never even been dropped.

two aimpoints have been perfect, as was an ml3 i had.

hell, the primary arms has been more reliable than the EO.

According to who? You? Which reticle is better is subjective. I happen to like the 4 MOA dot of my micro better. Does that mean that the Aimpoint reticle is better than the EO? No; it just means I like it better.

I think the EXPS is a good optic, definitely the best Eotech has released yet. It just wasn't my cup of tea. Will I be in a 600 hr firefight? No but it's nice only having to replace my aimpoint battery once a year and when I pick up my rifle, it's ON, no lame auto shut off feature like on the Eotech.

Was going to mention that you may be sittin on that one for a while. I do not have the self control to let a bottle sit around my house with crackin it open, let alone a nice one like that.

One of these days I will start an AR build of my own. One day.

I got a bottle of Cedar Ridge bourbon for Christmas. Iowa's First bourbon, and it's already winning international awards. Been meaning to crack it open, but I've decided to wait until we move to the new place. That will be perfect for celebrating the move.

Took her out a couple times this weekend. Shooting just 55g FMJs in the wind did 2"~ groups at 200 yards. I didn't have wind flags and really needed them as it was super gusty but it still was impressive to shoot. There were a pile of Black Rifles there on Saturday which made it a great day to shoot. I shoulda took more pics.
I got some 70g Bergers that I wanna shoot out to 800 yards once the water dries up, that may take a while.

Nice... I grew up in Kalona. I've got family all over the area... CR, Mt Vernon, IC, Kalona, etc... I was actually up there a couple weeks and me and my brothers took some assorted firearms (22lr, 20ga, 7.62) out to one of my dad's friends farmland. We're out there shooting for awhile and all of a sudden Amish people start walking out of the woods to see what we're doing, lol... luckily we were using the side of a pond as a berm instead of shooting out into the woods.

Awesome! Nothing better than fresh Kalona Cheese Curds and donuts!

We're moving to Ely here soon, so Kalona will be that much closer!

Yeah, it'll be great getting back to small town life! I hate living in Cedar Rapids.

I don't mind living in the Kansas City area, but I'd move back to Kalona in a heartbeat if I could.

And not to derail the thread... here's my meager contribution, lol...

And my wife just ordered one of these for me for our anniversary... should be here in a few days!

How does your 91/30 shoot? I currently have 2 (and have bought and sold 3 others) - I can't seem to get groups under 6"@100 with any of them. I'm looking for one that shoots well to put reproduction period optics on but I'd like a bit more accuracy. I'll eventually pick up a true sniper but at the moment I'm looking to build up something to actually hunt with. When I get my true sniper, I'll probably just keep it in the cabinet to stare at (and maybe kill some paper occasionally).
