It seems that most people measure their heights with their shoes on. I'm about 5'7" (inb4 manlet) and I know guys who are the same height as me who claim to be 5'9" or 5'10".
Do people really include the height of their shoes in their heights? Or is their an accepted standard value that people add to their heights?

I measure my height from a second storey building, because I spend a lot of time upstairs, and am a lot taller than people I see walking below me at street level.
