    Depends on your maturity level.

I started on an 06 CBR 600 and had no issues because I could control myself. If you have the need for speed better off starting on something forgiving and smaller.

    This.

Most modern 600's are even pushing it. If you can drive stick in a car, you may be able to get away with a newer 600. However, most 600s are pretty unforgiving towards new rider mistakes. The throttle and brakes are extremely sensitive and if you grab too much you'll end up on your ass.

Strongly suggest against a 1000cc or even 750cc bike for a first bike but I know a few who have done it. It is more about self control but yeah they are not as forgiving as many 600cc bikes.

You will find people saying dont even get a 600cc for a first bike and do the whole 250cc/ cheap cruiser thing for your first bike but like I said, if you have some control you can deal with the 600cc.

I started on an 05 zx6r with ZERO motorcycle riding experience and handled it perfectly fine. I know a few who totaled their bikes because they started doing wheelies and messing around only 2-4 months after getting their first bikes. I have about 10k miles and 3 years of riding experience now, currently on a ducati 848 and it is more than plenty of power.

The bike was pretty forgiving actually, felt good in the corners with a steering damper. Tires and a damper go a long way (atleast on pothole covered roads) The zx6r was a bit wide between the legs and at 5"8 i found myself still on my tip-toes. I would suggest lowering your first bike especially if you do not have previous experience.... just so you can flat foot at a light. Last thing you want to worry about is balancing when you get to the stop light... gotta worry about your gear, clutch, brake, what other cars are doing etc.
