Nutrition of the Golden Age of Bodybuilding.

In the modern, world of bodybuilding , we are surrounded and bombarded with PURE HYPE! If you pick up any modern muscle or fitness mag, almost 1/3 to 1/2 of the pages will be devoted to supplement ads disguised of all things to look like an article on training!

From the sheer amount of ads (not to mention their sales pitches) in todays magazines, one would think that the main activity today of anyone interested in building muscle is learning about, buying, and taking all of the right supplements! People are hit so much by so many ads in the mags that psychologically a person might actually start believeing that making any kind of significant gains is impossible without all those high-tech, cutting edge supplements and that their bodybuilding success will not be achieved without them!

The history of the pre-roid Golden Age of Classic BodyBuilding (the 1940s and 50s) tells us the plain, simple truth!

And that truth is that back in the Golden Days of Bodybuilding, supplements were slim to none, and eating real food was the true key to the well defined, ripped, bodies of these men, (and women). Their diet consisted of beef, chicken, eggs, and cottage cheese for the protein that was needed to put on the pounds.

All those classic physiques on the covers of the old time mags were ALL BUILT WITHOUT A SINGLE MODERN NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT!

supps used during the Golden Age of bodybuidling where:

Vitamins and Protien powder(Protien powder came out in 1950/51),dessicated liver tablets, brewer's yeast, wheat germ oil, and gelatin, and thats about it.

    Hi Eugen,
You are right supplements are what they are meant to be that is a "supplement" to food. Nowadays they are hyped.
You can get a good physique using supplements , and you can get a good physique without them too
That being said , most people should use them as a convenience rather than a replacement.

Tell you what check out pics of John Grimek,Steve Reeves,Reg Park,George Eiferman,John McWilliams,a young Bill Pearl,a young Tommy Kono,as well as Clancy Ross,Leo Robert, juan Ferrero, and Henry Downs.

they had muscle, symetry and proportion and looked solid not bloated and puffy.
todays pros looks soft, and they have no symetry and proportion.

Put todays bodybuilders behid a sheet and turn on the light and you would not be able to tell who was who based on their shadows, unlike with the old timers.
The Old timers proved you didn't need tons of supps to build a muscular body.

You contradict yourself by saying they didn't use nutritional supplements and then you go on to list the nutritional supplements that they used.

Oh no man I would "NOT" ever claim the pros today are natural ever.

I just think the supps today are hyped up on their effectiveness.

I agree that lots of stuff is bull crap, but creatine is one of the most proven supplements around. It definitely helps to increase strength.

You have a better chance of building a physique like the guy in the Black and white picture then you would of building one like the guy in the color photo, and old timers from back in the day 50's and before did not use roids in bodybuilding. That got staretd in the early 60's,the first people to use roids in conjunction with weights back in the 50's was the Russian Olympic Weight Lifting team.

well I used emperical science(i.E. tested it myself on myself) and the results where not increased strength and muscle like is talked about in the muscle comics, what i did get was enhanced recuperative abilities from it white I was using it.

And that is the only reason i'd use it now.

    I don't think he did,
for one thing it was in the 60's that roids started to became widely used,

2)It took a while though for their use to really catch on,and the bodybuidlers of the 60's and early 70's where not much bigger then those of the 40's/50's,and they did not take that much in the way of them.plus he trained heavy using the 5X5 training system,so it would have been easy for him without using roids to build up a big bulky physique(exampole looks at Brooks Kubik,no roids and big).

    3) Theres no much diffrence between Mr.Parks physique from from the 50's and the way it looked in the early 70's because using the 5x5 system he could have as i said bulked up a bit bigger without the use of roids.

It is possible to build more muscle roid free then the bodybudilers of the 40s and 50's would have deemed needed for a msucular symmetrical and proprotionate physique.

That being said which type of body do you really thing will attract the ladies and which one will turn them off from you?

remeber this not all women are impressed by Hulk sized bodies.

As for this last sentence... Remember this: some of us happen to have a pair of testicles and don't need to lift for women.
