Interested in opinions from anyone, but especially from those who did not read the books and watched the show.
I am liking it so far, even as a reader that is likely to take issue with minor changes.

well... i loved it.
i don't think i've ever seen a tv series that looked so amazing. the effects and environments looked better than most big budget movies. the acting is top notch and i just love the whole atmosphere. it's quite a bit of information coming at me though as someone who hasn't read the book. so many characters and plots introduced in 65 minutes. had to hit up some websites afterwards to go over some of the things. i have high hopes for this series and it appears many reviewers have seen 6 episodes already and say it only gets better. i'll need to watch it again sometime before next Sunday.

Cool. Yeah, that was my one gripe.
I kept thinking, this would be a lot for someone unfamiliar with the books to take in. But I'm sure they'll flesh all the characters out eventually.

Awesome start! They held very true to the book which I was worried about. I even loved the introduction where they were showing the map/cities popping up. Also, loved the bath scene :-)

I would encourage you to. The story gets better and better (at least the book does).

WAS excited until I saw episode 1...
awful acting on a few peoples parts... some really bad costume work too.
The bad acting made it hard to watch honestly...
Why am I going to watch episode 2? well the kid getting jacked out the window at the end... now I need to see what happens next!

I'm surprised to hear you say that, as I heard and thought the opposite myself.
But I appreciate your opinion and I can promise that if they hold true to the book series, it will hold your attention.

Yes, it is his sister.
As I said before, there is a great deal of incest in this series, so get used to it.

At the beginning during Jon Arryn's funeral ceremony.
It would've been fairly easy to miss if you weren't really in to it.

Cinematography for this show is legit. Costumes are on point.
Actors are coming into their own, slowly but surely.
I hope people stick around for later episodes, because this sh*t gets so good

Being a pretty big fantasy buff, i put on my robe and wizard hat regularly, i would say "A Song of Ice and Fire" is my favorite series of all time. I had issues with it at first as Martin loves to kill of characters right and left, but the story is so well written it's hard not to be sucked in. I'm happy HBO is taking their time with the series, the first episode comprised what... a few chapters? As far as book to television adaptation, i'm very happy. I thought the acting was well done, and the scenery + wardrobe was good as well. Really excited to watch these every Sunday and i can't wait until the next book is out. DRAGONSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Strong username to main characters in Game of Thrones, OP.
Great show though, I'm excited to see the roles that the dogs play throughout the series.

Can't believe I just found this now. Anyhow, I too am a longtime reader of the song of ice and fire series, and it's definitely my favorite of all time.
Extremely stoked that GRRM finally got a hard date on book 5, and i watched episode one last week and loved it. I thought it might be a bit slow for folks that haven't read it, but I have high hopes and it looks like HBO put lots of info on the web for those who are interested.
I'm at the firehall tonight, but I should be able to catch ep. 2 tomorrow on my PVR!
Can't wait to see what becomes of 'certain characters' in the forthcoming book (don't want to spoil anything).
I also ordered a house Stark and house Targaryen t-shirt from hbo lol. Anyone whos read the entire series should be able to figure out the significance.... PM me if u know or haven't figured it out and want to
Don't tell me what you want to do, do it.
