Is this supposed to be normal?

Ok, so I just got done with my first week of SL 5X5 and I did it exactly as outlined I started with the empty bar and so far there´s only been a minor increase since it´s only been 3 days. Here´s the problem though, I wanted to focus strictly on building muscle so I dropped the cardio and am getting plenty of rest but by the same token I´ve already gained 8 lbs in like a week and a half. My gut and man boobs are starting to pop out and I am not liking this for one bit. I´m eating lots of tuna, eggs, cheese, chicken, pasta, nuts, skim milk, veggies and fruit. I´m not eating junk not even on cheat days I´m only having desserts for my cheats. Before I decided to build I was only on cardio for 7-8 days straight and eating at less than 1,500 cals. Now I´m eating lots but I don´t think that I´ve exceeded my maintenance yet but I´m gaining weight. Is this normal when when you bulk to go through this? Will I reach a point in which I may be heavier on the scale but leaner and with less fat? I mean I just can´t cut if there is no muscle so just stick through it?

    I was 210 lbs today

You went from 1500 into a bulking diet almost instantly? I would guess the 8lbs is a lot of water/food weight.

Don't eat so much - start tracking your intake and eat a smaller surplus to minimise fat gain.

No. This could not be more wrong.

If you are gaining weight too fast/too much fat, eat fewer calories

Cardio is 100% not necessary to keep fat gains in check...or cut fat.

The thing with this program is there´s just too much rest and I´m a natural chubbie but I´ll stick through it I already got my first week and I don´t plan on quitting this time. I´ll eat a little bit more on lifting days and less on off days. But are you sure about absolutely no cardio farley? not even on a saturday when I still got sunday to rest?

OP - reading your post you seemed to be under the impression that if you don't eat "junk food" you won't get fat. There is no magic difference between 'healthy' and 'junk' foods - too many calories is still too many calories. There are not different kinds of calories.

I think you are just too fat to be 'bulking' - you should seek to maintain your weight or slowly decrease it - you should still be able to continue to gain strength.

    No, actually, there isn't.

I am sure cardio is not necessary to keep from getting fat

yeah probably because of the 3 squatting sessions per week but remember I´m still not doing any significant weight so to me it´s just a breeze at this stage.

Perhaps, but saying that you started so light it is currently easy and "the thing with this program is there's too must rest" are definitely not one and the same

you have a point but the main impression that I´m under is that of requiring a surplus to build muscle. Now it all points to me having to gain muscle and loose fat at the same time something a lot of people dub a failure

Excess calories, yes but not just stuffing your face. There are a ton of methods out there but if you're looking for a good clean bulk, find your maintenance, eat 2-300 calories over with 1.5-2g protein per lb. of lean body mass, monitor your progress and adjust accordingly.

Recomping is not a "failure" nor is it inefficient if done properly; eating everything in sight will get you man boobs.
