I used to drink heavy every night for a long time. I finally cut back and now I'm getting into that routine again. I wouldn't say heavy but like 4-6 shots a night. I drink flavored vodka(no carbs, no sugar, no fat) and water only. Is this ok as long as I fit it into my calories for the day? All of my macros are near in check, I know these are garbage aka empty calories I am consuming but does it matter as long as they are figured into my daily intake?

That's like 300-400 calories from vodka alone. Seems like a lot of macros (and micros) to sacrifice every day. While I don't see a problem swapping *some* of the carb calories for alcohol occasionally, it seems like you're pushing towards unhealthy habits.
Assuming some values:
250g protein (~1.3 x bw)
100g fat (near minimum recommended)
= 1900 cal
With the booze that's at least 2200 cal, which doesn't leave much room for carbs while maintaining a deficit, unless you're very active.

[QUOTE=sawoobley;662050033]If you decide to go this route then make sure and set-up a video camera to record your workouts. You might capture something that could win you a lot of money and make the rest of us die of laughter.
I thought beer muscles make you stronger....LOL but seriously, I drink at night only after I hit the gym and I'm all settled in for the night

I think the key here is moderation...
and like the site says, its not usually the alcohol that makes you fat, rather the food consumed with the alcohol...
I think drinking a 5oz glass of wine each night will not hinder cutting... but a case of beer might(even if you can fit in in with your macros, somehow?)

Assuming this is not a troll post, alcohol consumption spikes insulin.Insulin plays an extremely large role in storing fat. Whenever insulin is released, glucose stores are stored as glycogen in the liver for energy, as stated earlier. This is all gravy whenever your glycogen stores are depleted after a workout, but if they are full, and insulin is released, the extra glucose will be transported DIRECTLY into those fat cells of yours. And what happens when something enters the fat cells? If you don’t know, look at most of America.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know **** about **** but...
If you expend 2500 calories a day and you eat 2100 calories not effected by insulin and 400 that become directly stored as fat as you say, your body would have consumed 2100 calories.
Well, if you used 2500 calories that day, where would the other 400 calories come from?
I'm going to guess fat! So how can that be why America is fat?
But I dunno **** about ****.

""Ethanol (alcohol) is converted in the liver to acetate; an unknown portion is then activated to acetyl-CoA, but only a small portion is converted to fatty acids.
Most of the acetate is released into the circulation, where it affects peripheral tissue metabolism; adipocyte release of nonesterified fatty acids is decreased and acetate replaces lipid in the fuel mixture."
- Hellerstein MK, et al (1999).
Acetate in itself is an extremely poor precursor for fat synthesis. There's simply no metabolic pathway that can make fat out of alcohol with any meaningful efficiency. Studies on fat synthesis after substantial alcohol intakes are non-existent in humans, but Hellerstein(from quotation) estimated de novo lipogenesis after alcohol consumption to ~3%. Out of the 24 g alcohol consumed in this study, a measly 0.8 g fat was synthesized in the liver.
The effect of alcohol on fat storage is very similar to that of carbs: by suppressing fat oxidation, it enables dietary fats to be stored with ease. However, while conversion of carbs to fat may occur once glycogen stores are saturated, DNL via alcohol consumption seems less likely."

no dont do it.once a week is fine.Every day.No.Alcohol stays in your liver and screws with your body's ability to metabolize and use fat for fuel.Fat is metabolized in your liver so i alcohol.Limit it.DOnt cut it out if you like it but something that is so nutritionally empty cannot be factored into your diet everyday.
