My friend wants to eat 1 lb of lean meat/day. Good or not?

My approx. 175 lb. 28 year old friend who works out 3-4 days per week lifting weights and also does cardio a couple of times per week feels he needs to cook and eat as much as one pound of 99% lean meat like chicken or turkey per day (for example a whole 1 lb. package of three chicken breasts or a whole 1 lb. package of lean ground chicken), plus some grains, fruit & veggies over the course of a day. I told him that much meat was way overkill. I know he should count his calories exactingly, but if we are going to stick within the realm of an estimate is this anywhere in the ballpark or is this way too much meat?

I usually eat around 1lb of meat a day. I usually eat at least 1/2lb just at dinner. Factor in meat on sandwiches, snacks, etc. and it gets pretty close. I do drink a lot of milk and milk products for protein too.

1 pound of chicken breast is about 100 grams of protein. He could eat 2 pounds and still be perfectly fine.

You're half right, he should count his calories exactly.

Point him this way and tell him to read the sticky, you should do the same.

Yeh, I eat at least 1lb of lean meat between lunch and dinner every day. And I'm on an 1850 calorie cut.

I'm cutting right now, and if I got all of my daily protein from chicken breast, it would be over 1.5 lbs/day.

If your cutting I would say its probably unusual to be eating less than a pound a day just for satiety alone.

1lb of meat a day is nothing man...

Bodybuilders eat way more meat than that per day.

I'm stunned. I lift weights almost daily and do cardio to stay in shape and I too eat meat with every meal. But my portions are much smaller, maybe 4 ounces or so three or four times per day plus veggies & fruit & some whole grains. So a whole one pound package of ground meat from the store per day every day for a 175 lb person who works out to stay in shape but who isn't a ripped body builder? And some of you guys eat even more than that? Do you all pretty much just eat, cook, fart and defecate all day, lol?

Yeah I guess you're right. I probably eat close to a pound of meat myself in a day. I just vary mine quite a bit more rather than chowing down on a whole package of ground meat in one day or a package of three full chicken breasts in one day. I usually break it up and make each thing I cook last for a few days, For example, maybe I eat half a chicken breast for breakfast approx. 1/6th of a pound pre-cooked weight along with toast and a banana; a can of tuna for lunch approx 5 ounces, along with oats and watermelon, and then a serving of a few ounces of ground chicken with salsa mixed in for dinner in a whole wheat pita with soem green veggies and maybe blueberries for dinner, plus a protein shake if I work out.
