Cool How long does it take to lose muscle mass?

Alright so i have a couple questions actually. I'm not exactly a genius at bodybuilding yet.

How long does it take to lose muscle mass. I feel as if i need to lift. I got a small cold and i have done chest in almost a week. If im constantly eating complex meals (protein, carbs) all day. How long will it take before i actually lose mass.

I don't know the scientific answer but I've taken as much as 6 weeks off and not lost too much on my lifts. Right now I'm at 1 1/2 weeks of no lifting or supplements, and visually nothing has changed. I've lost about 2lbs on the scale, likely dropping creatine water weight.

In my physiology of exercise class, the professor said it takes 3 days. It's not a significant amount, but that's when it starts. After 3 days of no exercise.

I however am I little against this.
How could it be just 3 days?
Don't know, but you can't really argue with research.

Are you sure this isn't hinting at 3 days of being bed ridden? You will still utilize your muscles (typically) on a daily basis, and so long as you aren't eating a ridiculous caloric deficit you shouldn't necessarily catabolize the muscle?

I have 0 research backing, just thinking aloud.

I supply my body with PLENTY of protein and everything else it needs. Im just a little paranoid. Some muscle groups take longer than 3 days just to heal. And you cant lift when your healing

Depends on diet. On a cut, it would be much sooner than on a bulk. Most young people who eat over maintenance without lifiting will maintain their muscle for a couple months.

Who's research? Were the participants bed-ridden? Did they eat severe caloric shortages? I hope your prof said more than you're telling us otherwise his statement is worthless.

Yeah, I don't like the idea that we lose muscle mass after 3 days but I'll ask my professor again. I'll ask him to go into detail, then I'll come back & post what he said. He has a Ph. D in Exercise Science so he better know what he's talking about!
