48 ÷ 2(9+x)= 288
48/2 x (9+x) = 288
288/12= 9+x IT'S 288/24 NOT 12
24= 9 + x
x=15, WHICH IT DOESNT OBVIOUSLY..

48/2 (9 + x) = 288

24 (9 + x) = 288

9 + x = 12

x = 3


OK now lets try it with =2 instead and see what we get...
48/2 x (9+x)= 2
0.0833= 9 + x
x= -8.9166 Which it doesnt obviously

48/(2(9+x))=288
48= 288(2(9+x))
48= 288(18+2x)
48=5184 + 576x

Ok now the last way lets do it with 48÷2 and use 2 as the answer

Because the 2 is snuggled up against the () you have to finish that part of the problem before moving on, not just what's inside of the (). So 48 is being divided by 2(9+3) and then 48 is being divided by 2(12) so 48 is being divided by 24. NOW the () are gone and you can continue with your ****ing left to right math bullsiht. There is a reason the * is used it wasn't used in this equation.
