strong fcking retards in this thread
the answer is clearly 288
use BEDMAS, it's order of operations....in terms of multiplication and division, it's whatever comes first in the equation....
so it would be 48/2 * 12...
or if you want, 48*12 then divide by 2
i looked through the thread and strong number of 20+ year olds saying the answer is 2...LOL

LOL. It's not about someone's opinion. People are debating something factual. When you insert a "/" into a math equation, all that follows becomes the denominator in a fraction
48
---
2(9+3)
is the same as 48/2(9+3).
One people can recognize that, they'll see 2(9+3) is one function and the answer is very obvious (2)."My only enemy is time." - Charlie Chaplin

ur unconciouslly changing it. Yes 5(9) is the same as 5 x 9 but ur adding a term. By adding a symbol ur slightly changing the equation.
5(9) is one term while 5 x 9 is two terms
its lik this. B/C(D) u cant do B/C then multiply by D because u would be SEPERATING the TERMSSSSS
u must first multiply C and D then divide B by that answer... Its the truth bro...
Seriously, no hate to any1. Stop being so hostile people.Carpe Diem !

Wow, over 530 people don't realize when it comes to Multiplication/Division the order of operations goes from whichever comes first (left to right). In this case you do Division first. LOL @ PEMDAS, that's a method to help remember it, did you forget the rules associated with it?

there are either () that create one entity or nothing
you don;t just throw a number up against parentheses and say its one entity. That is some made up bullSh!t
parantheses are there to create one entity.
(2 + 2) for ex. is one entity PARENTHESES
2(1+1) is not one entity
this comes out to 2(2) = 4
also
there could be 2/2(1+1)
now you use PEMDAS, you do multiplication/divison whichever comes first
2/2(2)
1(2)
2
Parentheses is the ONLY indicator of one entity in Math. There is no invisible bull**** that creates one entity like x(y+z)█▀▄ █▀▀ ▄▀▀ ▀░░▄▀▀░ █░█ ▀▄░▄▀░░▄▀ █▀▀▄ █▀▀ █░░░█

Rule 1: First perform any calculations inside parentheses.
Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.
Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right.
answer = 2

Changing my answer to 288. It's just a stupidly written problem.
No you don't have to distribute the 2
Since dividing by 2 is the exact same as multiplying by .5
Problem can be rewritten as:
48*.5(9+3)
