Subtracting fiber from carbs?
Im just curious, do any of you guys subtract the amount of fiber from carbs and use that amount when prepping for a contest?

Subtracting is one way of document/viewing your diet. I prefer to only count complex/simple carbs. I never count fibrous greens/trace carbs in foods like nuts/eggs. Depending on the diet and day on the diet I usually have a goal or allowance of complex carbs I'll try to window around my training session.

Fiber has caloric content......with the exception of insoluble fiber. If it adds to your calorie count for the day its a good idea to account for it. Fiber does not contain the full 4cal/gram that other carbs do, but I count it that way. As long as you are consistent. If you dont count it, then I would still set aside a way to keep your fiber intake constant. Otherwise, you end up eating piles and piles of green veggies every day and the calories do add up.

I count every gram of fiber as 2 calories.

^this. counting veggie carbs is nonsense. counting protein/fat and complex/simple carbs are the only thing that should be monitored.....except in the offseason for the most part use the mirror for that. do i count my calories, no. i just weigh my proteins and measure out my carbs/fat. keeping it simple keeps the stress down.

But when you're really hungry and have a pound of broccoli those carbohydrates shouldn't be monitored?
You don't count your calories, but you weigh/count your protein, carbs, and fat? By doing so you're indirectly tracking your calories as well.

Often people succeed despite what they do, not because of what they do.
Counting carbohydrates from vegetables isn't nonsense.

That's if that's your approach, but that doesn't change the fact that almost all of the calories coming from fiber are still digested. AND the majority of carbs from vegetables aren't even coming from fiber...

No such thing as free food. You can certainly stall your progress by eating too many green, fibrous veggies. You can EASILY add a significant amount of calories to your daily totals if you view veggies as "free". How are they free? They contain calories. I would be willing to bet you DO count your veggies. There must be an "off" button for veggies. Otherwise, when you hit the end of your prep....deep single digits and you are hungry all the time......every waking minute is thinking of food.....you are going to scarf veggies like there is no tomorrow. Heck, if you told me I could go eat as much broccoli as I want right now, id have a punch bowl loaded up and start mowwing. A little WF ranch dressing would put me right on cloud nine.....and id eat until I couldnt stuff any more in my stomach. I wonder what that gas would smell like....lol! Point is....that punch bowl of brocolli probably contains 40g of carbs. 40g of carbs a day for 7 days.....1100+ calories. Thats a 1/3 pound of fat loss I wont be achieving that week.
Counting veggies.....whether its literally counting....or simply 'A'ccounting for them in some way is definitely not nonsense.....its contest prep.

If you want to get to an elite level of leanness then you need track everything consistantly. How you do that is up to you. I keep my fiber consistant and track it as a regular carbohydrate. I am also referring to contest prep dieting, not getting a beach body dieting.

This.
"Also, have you noticed that you lose your muscle if you training certain body parts together, such as chest and back? Have you thought about that perhaps the humanbody DOESN'T PRODUCE ENOUGH BLOOD to successfully fill those muscle groups up? Ah ha! There's your answer. Training muscle groups should be a thoughtful process, and not something you just go on a whim about. A proper training split would be:
Chest/arms | Calves/Shoulders/upper Back | Legs (NO CALVES) | Lower Back/Traps
Why no calve training during leg day? Is that correct? YES! why take all the blood you filled into your hamstrings and quads, then move it all SOUTH into your calves? You just successfully took your leg pump away, and your muscle growth is now decreased within that targeted area."

Well the only logical conclusion to be drawn from this undeniably conclusive data is that vegetables contain no calories and are most definitely "free". Ima get myself a wheel barrow and head over to the produce section tonight.

Yeah I mean no one has ever trained opposing muscle groups with success.
Wonder what he'd say to guys training full body. Advanced guys.

I sautee mine in EVOO, because (as commonly known) EVOO 'burns up' with the high heat. So a pan of them is zero calories. Might as well have two.

But common lol its not like i eat a ton pet meal. 1/2-1cup of steamed veggies here n there is not worth counting to me.
As for my calves training recommendation, its something my coach (former mr.contra costa tom toginetti) has got me doing, and it fully makes sense. Plus its working. Try it before doubting it
But each to his own...everyone has their method. Just funnyhow bashing has become the only thing on these boards lately. Kinda sad.

Not bashing man. I made a logical argument on why you SHOULD count your veggies and you came back and said....."well, since im not stalling...." Thats not justification for passing that kind of advice onto someone else. By saying you only eat a 1/2 cup here and there......you ARE counting your veggies. Its consistent day to day. I dont "count" my xtend BCAA's I drink intra workout. But its the same every day....two scoops intra workout. So, even though I dont write out 10g of protein on my food log, I still account for them in my diet. Stating that green, fibrous veggies are "free" implies you can eat as many as you want without worrying about their caloric consequence. And that is simply not true.

nah bro. not saying ur bashing at all. youve actually been one of the only respectable ppl on this board. you make good statements, and try to show the 'other' side of things, rather then puttin someone down, as many others do.
ya, i dont count the cals, but i pretty much estimate the "measurement" that i consume. but do i actually worry about if im over or too little on the serving size? nah. not at all. cause to me, those nutrients arent items to be worried about. to me, the only thing i really worry about is meal timing, and carb weighing/measurements. fats, im so so. 1/2 avocado, # of almonds, # tbsps of pb/olive oil, etc. i keep protein weighings the same. 8-10oz. whey, 2scoops (50g or so). so its not like im complicating it. i keep it simple really. counting cals isnt worth it to me. The mirror should tell the story if the diet is working, and how the body is feeling. Adjust to what you see....add/minus whatever haha thats my method. keeping it simple.
