I mean in terms of overall potential... Benni just set the all time deadlift world record while lifting raw and is only 27 if I read that correctly in a different thread. What other lifters have accomplished anything like this? Without controversy he is the best deadlifter in the world, looks like his progress isn't slowing down much at all, and is only 27. I can't think of anybody else who was like this for any lift/event.

Anybody presently or historically who is close to Benni's level?

in 5 years training he was already deadlifting 426kg, so no noone has ever been close to that level. Hickson been training that long and does much less then that.
He also broke his back before he started training deadlifts also in skiing accident, and did 180kg a few days after starting to weight lift.
If he didn't take a break from powerlifting for that last few years focusing on family and strongman he would have hit this type of lift even sooner.updated 2011

bennie started weightlifting at 17 after he broke his back in skiing accident and was told to do deadlifts to help his back heal.
http://www.brotherhoodofiron.com/hom...eadlift-holder
at 22 he deadlift 940 5 years later
I believe hickson been training since around 13-14 maybe even earlier, so in same time period he is about 200lbs off what bennie did in same time period.Last edited by someonefat; 04-02-2011 at 07:13 PM.

there was a 19 year old a few years ago pulling 400kg, he has yet to go over 900. Yet bennie just pulled 1015 easily, he could pull 1100 raw probably in the near future. Hickson is pretty amazing lifter but he doesn't even compare to bennie for the deadlift. If that ******** source was right he pulled 836 after a little over a year training, he pulled nearly 400lbs after a few days of training. He is just a genetic superhuman when it comes to the deadlift.

There have been some lighter lifters in various things who seemed way ahead of everybody else, such as Martin due to his age, Ed Coan, Naim Suleymanoglu, and a few others here and there, but I can't think of any other lifters in the heaviest weight class who was like this.
Brian Shaw does seem to have the potential, good point BIG_FAT_SLAPPER.

One thing a lot of people overlook are injuries becomes such a factor when you get to the world class level. One bad setback can take years off or even ruin a career. A lot of getting to the very top level comes down to working out smart and treating small aches and pains correctly and not shortening a career.
Makes comparing potential and actual achievements a little foggy. Hopefully the current crew of strong younger lifters stay injury free.Eat right, exercise, lift weights, get 8 hours of sleep.
