Buying home gym: help me with equipment list
I'm looking to fully furnish my home. So far, I've got in mind a Smith machine, a set of dumbells, a free barbell, an adjustable bench, and a stationary bike. how much do you think all this **** will cost me and furthermore am i leaving anything out? ah, oh yea, how much do u think an assisted-dip/chin machine and an a nautilus ab machine would run me?

I think with all of that mentioned you are pretty much covered. Why not get a power rack over a smith machine though? It's better for gains.

well, i was thinking about a power rack but i won't have a spotter for chest work, know what i mean?

Yes but you wont need a spotter, you can set the safety bars up high enough right above your chest, so you can go down pretty far and if you can't get it back up, the safety bar will catch it from falling on your chest? Does that make sense?

I quite often bench without a spot in a power rack.

Definitely get a power rack. You can do so much with it. The smith machine will do more harm than good in the long run. If you can afford it, you should get one of those dip/pullup stations.

Get the power rack and use the safety bars. If there isn't a power rack, it isn't a gym; it's just a bunch of equipment.

My mates call me Fred Flintstone... My home gym has the following equipment:
- an olympic barbell
- 500 Lbs in weights
- an adjustable dumbbell
That's it. The only thing I would like to buy would be a power rack. Right now I can't bench (pec tear), but I would like to do regular squats.

It depends on how much room you have. For me a bought a basic folding bench, a dumbell rack (ranging from 5lbs. - 100lbs.) and a combo chin-up/dip station. If you work out alone, like me - a set of dumbells is reasonably safe to use. In terms of space - the above mentioned fits in a corner of a room.

My basement consists of
Bench(w/bar)
Dumbells(add or subtract weight)
Ez-Curling Bar(dont use it nemore)
Ab Slide(actually works)
Pull Up Bar
How you think this will work for me just getting some mass for football? The bench also comes with some leg press machine

A power rack is a big cage, its like a squat rack but it surrounds you so you won't fall backwards/forwards
A smith machine is a barbell fixed on a vertical stand - they are pretty crap!
Definitely go for the power rack over the Smith machine - its way more use.
Personally when I make a home gym it will have.
Power rack
adjustable bench
dip/pullup station (maybe built into rack)
barbell
dumbells
plates
Nothing else needed - for calves just get a large piece of wood about 4 inches high - set your safety bars at a decent height and do raises - no need for an expensive specialised machine.
